Discuss Irresistible

Jon Stewart is a smart person with clear view of the political reality and the state of the news media. He is also a good comedian when he speaks about stupid politicians and bizarre media coverage of the politics, and I am sure he is a very sharp and smart person overall.

But the one thing he is not is a filmmaker. Sure, anyone with a bit of money can hire a team, some equipment, get few good actors and point camera at them. But being a filmmaker is not just that. You need to know how to tell a story in film format and when your story is weak or you are not telling it properly, the result is just a collection of jokes and actor's mannerisms. And no tearful country song can change that.

Irresistible is watchable as extended and scripted political sketch, some jokes are fine and the message is clear. But it is not really a movie because Stewart's purpose is not to make one, but to promote a message.

Woof. I'm still thinking about how bad this was. I like Rose Byrne in everything--What an amazing babe! Funny and hot?! How did that happen?--and even she barely made an impression. This was a dud from Jon. He should have started with something smaller first so he could learn how to direct and tell a story.
