Discuter de Roudram Ranam Rudhiram (RRR)

"Naatu Naatu" became, last night, the first song from an Indian film ever to win the Best Original Song Academy Award.

Exhilarating song and exuberant film performance thereof. I love it!

Interesting trivia (the following is quoted from Wikipedia):

"Naatu Naatu" was shot in August 2021 in Ukraine as a part of the final leg of shooting of RRR. Filming took place at the Mariinskyi Palace, the official residence of the president of Ukraine in Kyiv, a few months before the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Telugu film. I didn't watch the whole show but when I did switch over it was just in time to see Naatu, Naatu. I was exhausted from watching. I have never had energy like that in my whole life, even as a child (even though I was always running somewhere). 😅😅😅😅😅 I'm glad it won.

I only watched part of last night's show, and that song was definitely the broadcast's highlight for me.

By the way, I haven't seen (or prior to last night ever heard of) RRR, but may seek it out at some point.

Today I watched the film's song and dance sequence [first link above] a number of times and thoroughly enjoyed each time. A friend at work told me she wants to see me "bust those moves". I responded that if I try it likely won't be just the moves that get busted.

I'm hoping the love for the song and dance number got people to check out the film, which is great if you don't get too hung up on things like historical accuracy or physics. If anyone loved RRR, Jawan - also on Netflix - is worth checking out.

Managed to convince an American friend to give the movie a try. After having to sell his wife on the idea by showing her "Naatu Naatu", they both loved it and convinced their adult son to also watch it.

Was chatting to my friend last night and apparently the son was invited to an Indian wedding (which lasted for days and cost something like $200k!). When the son revealed that he had seen "RRR" he was fully embraced into the whole thing as a participant rather than just a guest and roped into a real life rehearsed and choreographed Indian song and dance number telling the story of how the happy couple got together!

That's so cool!

By the way, any clue what the lyrics of the song are singing about? I'm guessing the song must be about either celebration or the dancing?

No idea myself, so I can't speak to the accuracy of this that I found but it does seem quite believable.

It might lose something in translation!

I was expecting some anti-British sentiment in there, a bit like the "Irish" song from "Black Books" (slightly NSFW): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXvQzh10yrw

What I can't find out is the meaning of "Maasi"/"Massi" that I've heard used in a few Indian movie tracks. Google gives "Aunty", and I'm pretty sure that's not what is meant. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmYFlCgryiM
