Discuss A Night in Heaven

I recently heard of the movie online, and watched it. Aside from the fanservice I found most of the movie a typical piece of cinema about a love triangle. However, the part that irritates me the most is the ending, and the "holes" they left in the end.

  1. First Issue: Rick's Survival?

The main issue I had with the ending is the scene with Whitney confronting Rick with a gun. I know that in the end, Whitney spared Rick overall, instead of killing him for something that wasn't ALL his fault. However, the angry husband should've gone the full monty, give Rick his clothes back, drive him back, and swear him to secrecy. This is because he should've considered the fact that Whitney still left guy in a desolate lake. On a sinking row boat. BUCK NAKED!!! How is he supposed to GET HOME!?! Judging by how far he was from land, it's hard to tell if he could swim that far, if he can swim at all. And if he managed to reach the shore, how is he supposed to survive that environment, and get back to town. He is NAKED, with no way of protection from any dangerous/poisonous plants or animals in that area, OR a way to easily get a ride home without getting arrested.

Plus, I think that Rick was not made enough of a villain to warrant a "punishment". He wasn't a stone cold psychopath, just a 20 something year old guy who decided to fulfill a typical "Hot Teacher" fantasy, and I think that the movie would have been better if they had toned down the scene, or get rid of it completely

  1. Second Issue: Deceitful Ending

While the ending was heartwarming overall, it's more bittersweet than happy due to the fact that while Faye and Whitney made up, they will still hae to deal with the....

3.Third Issue: Obvious Consequences!

As I said before, Whitney held Rick at gunpoint, dragged the kid to a desolate lake, threatened him repeatedly, and left the college student/stripper stranded on a sinking boat. In the middle of nowhere (FAR from civilization). BUCK NAKED!!! Whitney may have been justifiably angry, he may not have been crazy, but he was stupid for doing that without regard with what would happen afterwards: A. Rick could somehow survive, make it back to town, go to the police, and either sue the couple or press charges. Either of these could result in Whitney going to jail for kidnapping, menacing, and armed robbery, while Faye is labeled a sexual deviant, gets firedfrom her job, and socially ruined. B. Rick could die in those woods from various environmental factors. Time will pass until Rick's Mom, girlfriend, or colleagues reports to the police, they get led to the hotel, talk to the clerk for records, review the tapes, and then grill the couple. Once they look for the corpse: <Word of the teacher-student affair spreads, costing Faye her reputation her job. <Meanwhile, Whitney goes to prison for kidnapping, armed robbery, and either negligent homicide/manslaughter/or second degree murder.

If they wanted to to make a happy ending and if they HAD to have Rick naked, then they could have just had Whitney confront him at the hotel. He could have snuck up on Rick in his room, aimed the gun at him, pondered it over and ultimately calm down, leaving the room with Rick collapsing on the bed. Maybe have a brief talk that went like this.

Whitney: Where the hell did you get off sleeping with my WIFE! Rick: She was Lonely....please dont kill me Whitney: (sighs) Relax kid, Im pissed off not crazy. Listen she's not gonna be "lonely" anymore. So you best stay away from her..got it Rick: Got it

IF they decide to make a remake, I hope they change the ending's details. I mean, they managed to make a Blue Lagoon remake on lifetime with Chris Atkins himself for crying out loud!! Surely they can remake this one too while they are at it right !?!

Anyway, if anyone agrees/disagrees with my review please reply. Also what do you think about potential remakes??
