Yeah, I saw that. It's still not clear to me, but thanks.

he was using school grant to pay his debts, murdered woman was school accountant who noticed the irregularity, though not sure why he killed husband first, maybe afraid she told him?

Thanks. So SHE didn't apply for the grant? I thought her family was down and out and needed money.

I think it's not really relevant who applied, it was small school, I think she was doing paperwork applying for it, but even the other teacher thought applications were denied, not exactly sure how could he hide approval unless he was checking mail and wrote fake letter to her, it's a bit plot hole there

as for murdered family farm finances, they say at some point everyone there has money issues and from when he checked their papers he didn't saw anything interesting in their finances

It makes sense if he was trying to cover up the fraud up to a point. Why murder the kid??? Also, why not just try and pay off the lady who worked at the school or explain the situation to her. Seems SUPER odd that the guy would murder 3 people over a little financial fraud. I mean, he wasn't a criminal, so it's a HUGE leap for a guy like that. I'm not thinking this is a very well thought out story.

he murdered kid to have no witnesses, if kid was not there he would not be murdered, that's why he left baby alive, as they say babies can't witness

it's not that odd really, if he would not come up with those 70K loan sharks would murder him and his family as they robbed them in other city and held his wife with knife, so if I have to choose whether someone will kill my family or I will kill someone else then sorry, but of course I'd try to find other solution like robbing the bank, maybe kidnapping for ransom, I mean if you are already considering murdering other people to avoid your family murder then better options are unlimited

All he had to do was wear a mask, hahaha.

And, I thought he got the grant money, so he was off the hook with the gambling debt. It's not like he'd ever have to go them and get the money back.

right, so the kid's death was unnecessary, clearly wasn't thinking straight, couldn't see forest for the trees

yeah I thought about that too, not sure about explanation for that, if he paid them back completely, then even if police find out he embezzled money worst thing which will happen is him going to prison, it's not like he has to ask loan sharks to give him money back. but we don't really know his situation, that 70K could just buy him time and maybe it wasn't final payment, it's not clear why kill them and try to hide it if he would be completely off the hook. maybe they threatened him also nobody can find out about them even after payment and he wouldn't be able to hide it from police for various reasons

And then his wife is sitting there in the hospital with him and says "He'll be fine," hahaha. Yeah, "fine" with a triple murder rap and and an embezzling conviction. The novel this is based on is apparently an "INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER." People are gushing about it on amazon.

I'm baffled.

wasn't that woman in hospital young policeman's wife? they said murderer was transferred elsewhere and was unrecognizable anymore AFAIR and this was clearly their local hospital

well we don't know how close the movie stick to book

As for the movie I suppose they meant to portray that the murders were somewhat done in a spur of the moment kind of situation under 'mitigating circumstances', but kind of fails in that as the murders do come across as rather premeditated although they are shown done rather sloppily. Anyways I thought it was a decent movie altogether even though the solution to the girls drowning wasn't perhaps the best. Hey, at the very least it's a million times better than watching some kid having sign language debates with a giant ape.

Agree on giant ape movie, had to switch it off after half an hour, extreme boredom, I mean I was expecting dumb movie, but at least thought I will have fun and see some action while watching, but it didn't deliver none of these (watched Niagara Niagara instead, which came to be quite decent flick).

The thing is, it's a HUGE leap for anyone under any circumstance to commit a triple murder like that. I don't know, I guess squares (as in the case of the author) just don't realize this. It's too easy for writers to just write "and then he murdered 3 people." Plus, we never get to see the actual threat hanging over this guys head, so I'm thinking "how bad can it be?" They never actually illustrate the threat.

I admit, I'm not into tentpole movies, or blockbuster's in general, but to me this is on the same level as something like Sharknado. I just don't have the patience for cinematic garbage. I haven't seen Niagara, Niagara in years, wow. Just started watching The Mentalist and I love Robin Tunney, so a rewatch is imminent.
