I'm not aware that a second version exists

It's a bonus version of the movie but I think it may only be available on the bluray trilogy collection.

Its available on VUDU

I think I saw a review on Youtube, from what I recall the GOOD is that the old butler doesn't reveal all to Harry at the end, the BAD is it still doesn't save this movie's weaknesses and some of the reordered scenes don't mesh well for the narrative.

I'd like to see it myself!

In fact, even though the movie didn't make it clear, there is no butler, that character is a figment of Harry's delusions. If you notice,no other characters ever interact with him,or even notice he is there. Therefore, the butler telling him that Spider-Man didn't kill his father was just Harry's own conscience reminding him of a truth he had always known all along.

I never picked up on that. Pretty neat little detail.

HAHA, that's an interesting theory...Spider Man 2 was on FXM the other night and was casually watching (paying half assed attn), I noticed the same Butler is in one scene before Doc Ock startles Harry on the Balcony..I want to rewatch the Trilogy to see where else he shows up.

It's not my theory, it comes straight from Sam Raimi himself.

What?!? I don't think Raimi himself confirmed that UNLESS it was said in the SM3 Commentary (which I haven't listened to yet). I Googled it and only found some well written "fan theories" (and it sounds COMPLETELY plausible), but it leaves further plot holes/gaps. If you have a link, that'd be wonderful! Otherwise its as real a theory as Sandy & Danny having drowned in the beginning of 'Grease' and the whole movie was imagined and she goes to heaven at the end (lol).

Wow, that butler is a subtle touch, then, because I thought he was real (within the story).

I'm going to withdraw that claim, I've heard second and third-hand sources who claimed that they heard it from Sam Raimi, but I've never personally seen anything where Raimi himself says it.

By the way, I want to go on the record as saying that I think Spider-Man 3 is unfairly maligned. Yes, I know the 'emo Spider-Man' scene is cringe-inducing, I know the story is bloated with too many characters, I know the retcon of who shot Uncle Ben was lame and unnecessary. But it also has the best action scenes of the entire trilogy, the fight between Peter and Harry in the beginning was alone better than any other fight scene in the other two movies, while the final battle between Spider-Man and Harry against Venom and the Sandman is one of the best action set pieces ever filmed.

Agree 100%!!! I always defend the action scenes in SM3..they beat anything in the Amazing SM movies.

Really wish they had kept out the fluff of Emo Peter..that scene in the jazz club is more cringe inducing then the street walk/dance IMO.

"One of the best action scenes ever filmed" is going a bit far but yes, the action is very good. The special effects on the Sandman are outstanding. Many simply ignore the film's positives because it has a lot of negatives but it's unfair to rate a film this way. Film's are rarely simply black and white, terrible or awful. People tend to be like this with many films and Spiderman 3 is a good example of a film that is a mixed bag. There are many things I wished they did differently but I can think of many films that are lot worse. Films with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
