I wont post spoilers or I guess I can't really since this is a pretty much a remake/reimagine so everyone pretty much knows the story already from the OG one from the 1980's, but I'll say this is more so a musical so its more upbeat, uplifting with ton more singing dancing, more jokes and more fast paced than the original.

There still is a lot of all the disturbing things from the original such as rape, incest, abuse, racism, etc. But I actually felt this version was done a lot better and just over all way more clear. The story line flows better and is explained better where the original one the audience kinda had to guess what was going on or what was happening behind the scenes.

Theres talk and buzz about Oscars already and I can see that as the Oscars love a movie thats a musical and when talented black actors/actresses overcome horrible tragedy and sing their hearts out!

I am not sure, because upon seeing the trailer, I rolled my eyes, like, “Really, they have to remake/reimagine this too?” I’m a fan of the original, but it’s not like my favorite movie or anything. I would most likely wait til later to see this. I’m not the biggest fan of musicals anyway.

Yeah I feel ya! I was invited to the special screening all the way back on November 18th, they said it was the first official screening of the finalized film that night, so they were all hard core about taking video and posting spoilers, but like you said we all pretty much seen the movie already so why even trip over that? Its not like there was any major differences in the movie or big surprise twists.

Also I'll be totally honest, when they invited me I was like naw no thanks, then I asked them will Oprah actually be in house and they said yes she will so I went. Had Oprah not been there I would definitely not have gone.

It moves much faster and smoother than the original one. Things are actually explained a lot better in this movie too as things were very confusing or unclear in the first version. The musical aspect was not annoying it actually helped modernize and keep the story interesting and its not like singing and dancing every scene, id say over all its not that much singing and dancing in comparison to other musicals that force a singing/dance scene for no good reason.

But you are right I sat next to some of the producers friends that night and told them I found the first one to be disturbing and it made me angry and they all said they feel me but also the musical elements of this movie will make the audience feel more positive than negative, which turned out to be true.

I'm with you in that if Oprah didn't show up that night, I'd prob just stream it once it came to MAX or whatever.

In reply to your question, why do you think I've seen the "OG" version? I haven't, at least not all the way through....
