Discusión Derren Brown: Sacrifice

As I watch Derren's shows--especially this one--I can't help but realize that he is using the whole program to try to psychologically manipulate every viewers. It kinda creeps me out. In Sacrifice we see all the none-too-subtle fans/app logo, trigger sound embedded throughout, and words splashed on screen. He claims some higher ground ethically, but the truth is that these methods are amoral, and as with all things in humanity, can be used for good or evil as the bearer wishes. So what do you think? Do you trust Derren? I don't.

A far more daring proposition: A program where...puts ordinary citizens in the uniform for a moment and sends them into scenarios where taking another human being under fire is a viable option that, to the letter or the law, would be a justifiable homicide. Harrowing merely to imagine, nonetheless a series that would have "landmark" tattooed on every reel from the outset

While this reply seems way off topic given my original post, I did want to share that this exact thing was done by some St Louis police departments (at least one that I know of anyway) in the wake of the Micheal Brown shooting. The department(s) invited the community into a dialog about police officer training and tactics, then used a training tool that the officers themselves use in lethal force situations. The training tool involved a full size video projection with response sensors and weapons designed for the task. The citizens who participated were outfitted with the appropriate weapons, and were allowed to run various scenarios (unknown to them if the scenarios would be lethal threats or not). The citizens who were then interviewed by local media were amazed at the difficulty of determining when and how to use lethal force. As one would expect, many of them got it wrong. This type of community engagement seemed like a fair-minded and good response to Michael Brown's tragic death and police officer's daily burden in volatile encounters. Oh yeah, and neither Derren Brown nor the officer involved were required.
