Free Guy trailer

Seems like it could be a fun concept.

That statement is almost an oxymoron. People tend to like and want to see films that follow a specific established pattern, this is how film companies get rich and it is also why they can afford to risk billions to make them.

If you want to see a truly original, refreshing movie in concept; style; subject matter and presentation you would have to look elsewhere.... independent movies perhaps. Those, by definition, will NOT be "blockbusters".

Could've been, had RR not decided to put on a facade of allyship , and in the process moved away from what he does so well, ala. Van Wilder. Alas, an RR minus raunch has been about as appealing as Vin Diesel leaving behind the sports cars and explosions in favor of trying his hand at Shakespeare

I haven't seen it yet but I've heard mainly good things about it. I can see there's that other Free Guy thread by that guy who hates everything saying it's "garbage". But that guy hates every film so you can't really take that into account.

An actor doesn't have to be exactly the same in every film and he'll be back to doing Deadpool 3 soon anyway. And hold on a sec, Van Wilder was shit. It was never seem as a good film. Same with his entire comedy career up until Deadpool when he finally found a role that totally worked with his shtick. I actually liked his serious stuff like Buried and The Nines rather than his "comedy".

That video you posted, I wonder if the people who post these videos or Amber Tamblyn herself ever read the comments for them. I wonder what they'd think. There doesn't seem to be a single one that doesn't criticise what they're saying. Don't they ever stop and think "Hang on a sec. Maybe there's something in this."

A Julianne Moore or an Eric Bana has the dramatic chops to be an entirely different character in every role, this is true. A Ryan Reynolds or for that matter a Blake Lively has infinitely more limitations though(the charmingly lewd frat boy who never quite gets past his early 20s psychologically, in the former's case.

I would have said exactly the same before I watched Buried. I hated the guy back then. I'd have been even harsher to him than you are.

Only saw the first Deadpool, and wasn't thrilled by it.

And it's your right not to be. But that's not the general consensus.

Didn't see either of those two, thus I'll refrain from commenting

You should definitely check out Buried. It's not a long film. The Voices too is one worth checking out.

Most likely, no she hasn't. Whatever one might want to say about some of the guy's political ideas, James Carville called the folks in Tinseltown out on their endemic cluelessness back in '93 , with an unflinching frankness that's still in rare supply even today. Quote the linked article: "But according to some of those present, what was most offensive was Carville's lecturing-turned-condescending tone that suggested the wealthy, famous Hollywood types were in no position to offer advice to ordinary middle- class Americans struggling to pay escalating medical costs."

That link isn't available in my country.

Dunno, Just. From what I've read and gathered, opinions on the Deadpool flicks remain divisive, especially among fans of the comics. While some have fawned over these movies as a revolutionary next step in the superhero genre, other viewers have made a powerful case that Reynolds actually dumbed down the character significantly. Namely, lots of fans have opined that RR whittled the character's formidable wit down to a ceaseless torrent of d-ck jokes

When it came out, the atmosphere was one of love. I didn't speak to anyone who didn't think it was great. Even people who didn't like super hero films sung it's praises. You get some people dissing it on the net. But you get that with every film. Especially from comic purists on a comic book movie. I've read a fair few of the comics. And yes, the films did abandon his schizophrenia. Which would have made for an interesting angle. But the formidable wit I was expecting from the comics mostly eluded me. With the occasional exception. They're ok but they're far from Oscar Wilde. The jokes in the films were wittier. There was more self awareness in the films than the comics. "Ajax? Is that your real name? Because that sounds suspiciously like a made up name." That isn't a dick joke. There are dick jokes there of course. But it doesn't begin and end with that.

Is Van Wilder anything more than dick jokes and gross out humour?

Where on God's green earth do you live, for an archived article from The Sun Sentinel to not be available? I'm well aware that Big Tech censorship is a plague on modern society, but this really takes things to a level henceforth unimagined

Just the UK. I've had those screens pop up a few times.

Heard a ton of great things about Free Guy though I haven't had the chance to watch it yet.

Oh it IS a remake buddy...just not officially. Its a remake of LEGO MOVIE! laughing

Yes, I did notice your other thread. I haven't seen it yet so I couldn't possibly comment.
