Nah...just kidding it's "Highlander: The Woke Edition". If that is what you were looking for than this movie will be your cup of tea. For the rest of us.....meh...go rewatch the original Highlander and stay away from this turd. Should've known when that dreaded "N" logo showed up at the start that is was going to be complete crap.

I rewatched the original Highlander last week and it's still crap.
If this is even worse I think I'll give it a miss.

Well, you can't please everyone obviously, but I didn't find this movie did anything better than Highlander. I thought Highlander (the original) was one of those rare occasions in cinema where just about everything clicks (the characters, the actors, the music, the story) to make a really memorable movie. This turd on the other hand......I don't think anything clicked.
While I'm here: I read this is based on some kind of a comic book. I was wondering does the character in the comic book also carry a silly looking axe like Charlize Theron does in the movie? It looks really impractical and the way she carries and handles the thing it looks like it's made of plastic instead of steel.

In retrospect, as a lapsed fan, it's kinda cheesy but it was also fun in its own way. Christopher Lambert is a rotten actor, but Clancy Brown is, well, CLANCY F*ING BROWN, and Sean Connery's always fun. Other than that, while I don't think it's awful, it's also definitely a product of its time and hasn't aged especially well.

Yes, Andy (Andromache the Scythian) is a Greek, whose history goes back at least as far as the the Trojan War, perhaps even further. The double-headed axe (labrys) was not uncommon in those times.

If you had read the article at the link I left:
"Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and written by Greg Rucka, “The Old Guard” is based on not one, but a trilogy of graphic novels written by Rucka, with artist Leandro Fernández."

Which is a shame because this could have been good. The whole reason why I watched the movie was because I was in the mood for a fun Highlander ripoff, but of course this is 2020 so they had to woken it up. Charlize Theron was so masculine I thought she was going to pee standing up and all the men were weak and pathetic.
I also noticed that the two gay immortals only reveal their relationship in a scene that could easily be removed for non-western markets that frown on that kind of thing so the movie can have its cake (appear to have an lgbt couple) and eat it too (remove that relationship to make more money) just like that lesbian couple in Star Wars.

Oh come on, it wasnt that bad! It was entertaining for a couple of hours, it was never going to be ground-breaking storytelling. Admittedly I've not seen Highlander so can't compare it but looking at it as a standalone movie it was watchable.
There were some cliché and PC elements (gay couple, strong female lead) and even some which didn't make sense (the British bad guy scientist who wanted to save millions of lives while sadistically conducting experiments) but overall I wouldn't mind watching a sequel.

I will admit it wasn't the worst thing ever, it managed to hold my attention and I didn't fast forward through any scenes, but whenever I detect wokeism in a movie or TV show it starts to turn me against it. For a Netflix movie I didn't have to pay $15 to see it was okay, but it could have easily been better with some better casting in parts and better characterization. It's like a C-.

Amen. It's far from the worst movie ever, but there are obviously movies that do the same general shtick better. Hell even the often mocked Highlander sequels were better than this.

That's fair but isn't this based on a comic? You can't blame the movie for wokeism unless the producers changed elements of the story.
IIRC the gay immortals revealed themselves to be in relationship on the train sleeping together. That was a crucial scene as they all dreamt about the new immortal so I don't think they could cut that out for international versions.
