Just saw this. Would highly recommend for a good fun evening out, with a slight twist on the usual "whodunnit" format.
Perhaps suffered a bit from the over obvious, almost cringeworthy political analogising but easy enough to ignore if you're just in the mood to enjoy...

Didn't you know Rian Johnson is the Antichrist?
Star Wars incels will have your Midi-Chlorian credentials revoked for such a positive review.

Well TLJ was certainly terrible as far as I'm concerned but whether that was Rian Johnson's fault is up for debate. i.e. whether you give anyone free rein to write a supposed 8th installment in a series is up for debate.
However Looper was an ok film and this was certainly better than ok, so he's not a complete dud as a writer / director...

Yeah, to condemn every film by a filmmaker if they make one bad film is so absurdly retarded.
If we applied that philosophy to every director we'd barely be watching any films. And imagine the flack someone like Joel Schumacher would get today.
When I watch Knives Out I'll be judging it the same way I judge any other film.

I personally don't think Johnson has made a bad film yet.

I don't think The Last Jedi is as awful as people make out. But I don't really like it either.
I'm just describing it as bad in this particular context. Because the naysayers are overreacting to what they consider is a bad film.
I do think Johnson is a lot better at making smaller films than big blockbusters.

the starwars fans are still reeling from having lost their religion, or having it desecrated (depending on perspective)... I tend not to hold it against them for the most part and ignore their comments on other movies...
Knives Out is a lot of fun.. Highly entertaining and I think "whodunnit" movies are under-utilised as a sub-genre... I'd like to see one done in a sci-fi context...
Yeah, there's more than a little nod to current political sensibilities, but the movie overall doesn't really suffer from it and it's actually handled quite well... It's very well directed and very well acted... great cast

Just watched it and thought it was a good, enjoyable take on the old fashioned detective story. It required some suspension of disbelief and the whole lying = vomiting plot device was especially silly. But it kept me entertained.
I don't see anything in this whole fuss about the films supposed politics. Just because one nasty character happens to be right wing? The liberal he was arguing with wasn't portrayed as a very decent person either. They were all pretty questionable people. I think the film was just using those political slants to make for entertaining, modern day dialogue while presenting a squabbling rich family.
Not that I think there would be absolutely anything wrong with a film criticizing Trump. Back in the 2000s almost every film or album had something negative to say about Bush. It seemed to be accepted as the norm. Why would you expect it to be any different now with Trump? Why was it ok back then but not now?

It's kind of a dumb story.
