Discussão Hypnotic

Having just watched it I'm just kind of shocked at how abysmal the movie was. Even more so after finding it out it was directed by Robert Rodriguez and has plenty of competent actors in it. The end product is.....well....for lack of a better expression complete sh!t. I've seen a lot of terrible movies in recent years, but it's been quite a while since one of them really had me thinking about how garbage like this gets financed. The only conclusion I could come up with is that it in a screenplay it must seem and sound like a great plot and idea, but they somehow manage to completely butcher it in the movie. What can I even say about the story.....a disjointed mess of a story about b-class professor Xaviers running around with guys dressed like real-estate agents hunting and plotting against them. How on earth did they think a movie and plot like this was going to have any kind of mass appeal and box office draw. I do love the optimism though as there is an after credits or during credits scene that hints at a sequel. All I can say: no thanks.

Here's the thing. I think the basic plot of the movie is interesting. The bones of a good story are actually there, it even kind of reminds me of movies like Push or Infinite, and just like those movies this was badly executed. The script is just lazy and feels like a first draft. With a little rewriting and different casting this could have been decent. But speaking of casting...

Ben Affleck, oh boy. He looks like he is being held at gunpoint throughout the entire movie, like's he's fed up with even having to be in it.

It's very simple - there is a lot of scripts and writers trying to succeed in Hollywood. Studios with money became completely indifferent and apathic towards anyone that approaches them with a screenplay. They don't give a sh!t about whether the script is good or bad, they don't bother to read most of them and frankly the people who are responsible for reading the scripts are incompetent anyway and would not be able to differentiate a good story from a bad. So as result they make their life simple - they wait for someone with a big name to approach them. Robert Rodriguez is a big name, Ben Affleck is a big name. Studio gets both and they greenlit the movie based on these names only, without caring about anything else.

Then as result they get sh!t like this movie, but they cover their investment, earn some cash and move on to the next thing. Some studios and some producers don't care and don't take risks. For them it's better to make a sh!t with big name than reading scripts, finding some talented writer and betting on him. Not all producers do it, but a lot of them do.
