Discuter de Midsommar

I'm not against the appearance of drug use, but getting Christian stoned to the point of a psychadelic stupor in order to coerce him into the 'situation' kinda puts a damper on him being the antagonist. He was as much a victim during the festival as Dani was, if not more. They literally led him to his fate without any other choice.

In no way am I trying to be an apologist for his character, but if the filmmaker is trying to make him as a 'dick' then he should have done more. Done something to merit punishment. The relationship between Dani and Christian should have been developed further, I guess.

I think that's the zinger though. Dani didn't know that he was under the influence when she saw what she saw. That was the whole point they rendered him mute and paralyzed. He couldn't defend himself. Therefore, Dani thought he was acting on his own and that's what stings about her choosing him to be the one sacrificed.

I suppose, but she could obviously see he was "mute and paralyzed" so shouldn't that raise her suspicions that it was a setup?

Kinda makes her the antagonist, despite the piled-on sympathy the viewer was supposed to feel after the horrific cold open. This movie was just all over the place.

Good point, volkstraum.

I really didn't find Dani to be all that sympathetic of a character throughout the movie, to be honest.

And I did think about that and the only thing I can think of is that she was still high herself and wasn't in the frame of mind to make a rational decision.

he clearly wanted it... he was into the girl from the moment he got that playful kick... he was just to afraid to act on it in latter scenes...

He didn’t act on any of her flirtation because he wasn’t drugged until the climactic scene.
