To avoid confusion, it should be noted that this is the 1928 film Mulan Joins the Army produced by Minxin Film Company. But there is a 1927 version of Mulan using a nearly identical title produced by Tianyi. The Minxin version was a major epic within Chinese cinema while the Tianyi version was a cheap copycat designed to make it to the boxoffice before the other version in order to benefit from the hype surrounding it.
