Michel Bernardin est employé à Planète Assistance, société d'assurances pour les voyageurs à l'Étranger. D'après son expérience tous les pays étrangers offrent ses dangers, maladies, aux polices corrompues, aux prisons systématiques. Sa fiancée Isabelle va quitter son emploi d’hôtesse de l’air pour passer plus de temps avec lui. Son amie Sophia, qui dirige une agence de voyages, l'a prise avec elle, à l'agence. Michel ne pouvait concevoir que sa future femme aille si loin aux devants de tous les dangers des autres pays. Mais Isabelle doit un préavis, et doit effectuer des derniers vols. Elle choisi de ne pas le dire à Michel. Lui-même, doit aussi faire des "extras" en rapatriements sur demande de son président (François Perrot). Chacun cache la vérité à l'autre. Mais comment vont-il bien pouvoir manœuvrer ?

Michel works there manically solving people's problems over the phone. He is about to tie the knot with his girl friend Isabelle, an airline hostess. She flies all over the world, he hates to leave the office. A series of madcap mishaps involving theft or injury (as you would expect in his line of work) ensues after Michel promises Isabelle nothing will delay their marriage and she promises in turn that she's done flying. Once this unlikely promise is made, it becomes premise and both are forced into escalating white lies to maintain the appearance of keeping their word. Their predicament mounts as Isabelle is forced to do a few more flights, while Michel is compelled to travel to New York, Tunisia, and finally Hong Kong, where they are finally reunited in the throes of a contrived and hilarious drug deal involving a 747, water taxi chases, and martial arts.

Michel je sice už dávno dospělý a v zaměstnání si vede skvěle, ale dosud se nedokázal postavit na vlastní nohy. Denně musí být doma včas na večeři, maminka o něj vzorně pečuje. Přesto si našel přítelkyni, za pár týdnů se dokonce budou brát. Krásná Isabelle mu ale působí velké starosti. Michel je likvidátor škod v pojišťovně a při práci se setkává s následky leteckých neštěstí. Z létání má proto panický strach, sám takové dobrodružství ještě nikdy nepodstoupil. A jeho milovaná je letuška! Aby ho uklidnila, Isabelle slibuje, že své povolání opustí. V tu chvíli ještě nikdo z nich netuší, že ustrašený pojišťovák bude zanedlouho muset brázdit vzduchem celý svět...
