Discuss Sorry We Missed You

if he is self employed contractor why is he working 6/14 and just won't rather take less hours to have better balance and more energy?

it seem they were doing fine before, sure no savings, living in rent, but it's still better than destroying your family and killing yourself for few extra quid, isn't?

also if he doesn't like this delivery company why not just find different? it's not like there is only one in market, not sure about situation in UK, but here in Czechia all companies would be kissing his ass to work for them with zero unemployment

it also strikes me a bit odd they are delivering 6 days a week, why are they not having weekends for delivery companies? how is it even legal to work 6*14=84 hours a week contentiously, that's more than 336 hours per month, pretty much double of normal workers

Because he has the statut of independent, not a employee, it is legal. We have the same problem in France with the status of "auto-entrepreneur", deliveroo, uber etc.. uses from this new flaw in the system. This status was created to promote business creation but it is hijacked by large companies. In France a chronopost driver delivers 6/7 and it is 95% of the time of foreigners, they are the only people to accept this work and pressure. It's a kind of modern slavery.
