Minor SPOILERS

The score, the animation and the setting were all in its favour. I'd have loved this as a kid. I also like that (barring the obvious with the setting) it was kept fairly low key and mundane. No fights with creatures or flying on the back of a bird - just an unusual family responding to every day surroundings.

The unsympathetic mother figure and the heavy handed environmental message that was shoe-horned in weren't in its favour, but overall one of my favourite Ghiblis of the 2010s.
