Gennarino Laganà is a poor Sicilian who struggles with menial jobs to support his family, while his parents pressure him to seek his fortune in the North. Gennarino would never leave his beloved island if he had not stumbled into a love affair with Donna Egeria, wife of the Mafia boss Don Mimì. To escape certain revenge, he boards a goods train. In a dream, Saint Totino appears to him and promises him protection in exchange for a regulated life. He thus arrives in Milan, where he meets Armida, a woman of the streets, who takes him into her home and makes him her protector and lover. But San Totino appears again to Gennarino and reproaches him for being a kept man: he must work and Armida must change her life. 

Gennarino, un giovanotto del Sud, commette uno sgarro con un boss mafioso (andando a letto con la donna di lui). Per sfuggire alla vendetta, decide di partire per Milano dove viene raggiunto dagli sgherri del boss. Costretto a lavorare per loro, il poveraccio accetta di portare in Sicilia un pacco che (ma lui non lo sa) contiene una bomba. La bomba scoppia, ma il giovane non muore. E, all'ospedale, ritrova la donna che lo ama, una prostituta di buoncuore.

Un joven del sur de Italia comete el error de acostarse con la esposa de un mafioso. Huye a Milán, pero los esbirros del capo le localizan y le obligan a ir a Sicilia con un paquete, que contiene una bomba aunque él no lo sepa. La bomba estalla, pero el joven no muere. En el hospital vuelve a encontrarse con la mujer a la que amaba, una prostituta de buen corazón.
