Bespreek Marni

I was surprised by the rewatch on TCM yesterday. The film seemed more grainy than I remembered. Also, one early scene in the film Connery has full-on eye makeup- shadow, liner and so on. And his eyebrows are trimmed to be way too thin. In HD this movie makes him look like he's auditioning for the Tim Curry part in Rocky Horror. Still love the film despite the silly cure for Marnie and so on. It's still very watchable.

I can remember not thinking much of this one and that it looked dated - in particular a scene with a huge boat superimposed in the background to make it look like it was moored right at the end of the street. Comically bad effects.

It made so little impact on me I cant even remember that Sean C was in it.

all fair points. I will also say that Tipi H was kind of weak. I think it did help Connery be a better lead. You can see most of his Goldfinger charm was from his character in this β€”- and they did shoot Marnie and Goldfinger back to back

A POSSIBLE SPOILER BELOW.

What an interesting film. I must admit, it was messed up when Connery's character raped Marnie. The cure for Marnie's problem is indeed hard to take seriously, IIRC. At that point in the film, I craved resolution, so I just went with it. But back to the former part of the film, it kind of reminds me of something my mother said about what happened to the senator Al Franken. He got into trouble a few years back, in part due to a picture he had taken of a sleeping woman wherein his hands were on her breasts without her consent. My mother had explained to me that when Franken was into his comic career, that kind of thing was considered funny to some people. I just didn't find it humorous at all, and I just feel like Franken's pic shows where society's heads were at then, in terms of a kind of progression of civility. It's like I'm thinking that the implication of Marnie's rape might've gone by quietly, as opposed to how today, it would probably provoke a megaton of outrage. Neither response really seems correct to me.

i like the two Trailers From Hell takes on the film (linked here at tmdb). one guy hates it and one loves it.

Good to know I was not the only one who thought Connery looked odd at times. I'm a bit mixed when it comes to the film itself. Underway, it did not do a lot for me to establish a connection to the two main characters. Combined with not enough information of progress drop-fed, at least that I caught unto, it wasn't until the last part of the film it started becoming enjoyable. It was especially slow in the beginning, and in its total length is already more than enough, which is a shame as I do not think Lil's character was used to its full potential.
