Discusión Doctor Sleep

I didn't think any filmmaker could appease both fans of the novel AND fans of Stanley Kubrick's version of The Shining...but dammit, Mike Flanagan pulled it off...even got Stephen King to like it (King famously hated Kubrick's Shining). At first I was looking forward to JUST the Overlook scenes, but the movie was just well done! A shame it failed at the box office.

The movie had good promotions, reviews and word of mouth. Still people aren't going to watch it, but Joker is still doing well. Well I say to all those people wanting to see something other than a comic book movie, you really only have yourself to blame.

Both films were overlong.

Absolutely! I am going to be recommending this one to my friends. I thought it was well done. Happy to see a horror movie that doesn't rely on jump scares etc. I hate jump scares.

The last horror films I’ve seen are The Witch (superb), It Follows (creepy), As Above So Below (claustrophobic), and The Nun (nice castle).

How does Dr. Sleep compare to these?

More superhero than horror, but compliments the Shining well. They could have made the 3rd act a bit better though, and kind of disappointing considering the options they could have went with.

Which "both films"?

I agree. One of the best of last year. I don’t think they marketed it well and maybe younger filmgoers don’t know The Shining? Anyway just a good horror film. I hear the uncut it’s even better
