Debat Ramen Shop

Item: La saveur des ramen

Language: fr-CA

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: "La saveur des ramen" is not correct French title capitalisation, and the French logo – as seen on the French poster at http://zhaowei.com/web/index.php/films/ramen-teh-2018 – indicates the long vowel in "rāmen" (ラーメン) with a macron.

The French title should be "La Saveur des rāmen".

I didn't see that there were separate French translations for France and Canada, or even knew that this was possible.

I wonder then why aren't there different English translations for US/CA, UK/IE, AU/NZ and South East Asia allowed, considering that titles, spellings and punctuation are in several cases different between these region? (This being one, as its English title is Ramen Teh in South East Asia but Ramen Shop in the other regions; by putting Ramen Teh as the original title but Ramen Shop as the English translation I hope I've input that correctly.) Are they allowed, but I didn't know about this either?

I also wasn't aware of there being different conventions for how French titles are capitalised between France and Canada. Do you know of any links to information about this? I'm not denying that it might be possible, but it's the first I've encountered this idea.

You're clearly right about the French title in Canada lacking any modifiers, though; there's nothing further to be asked about that.

Only a couple of languages have multiple translations (French, German, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Malay). But hopefully Travis will eventually add more.

Here. Most sources follow the 'keep it simple there's no need to overuse capital letters' guidelines.

Just when I thought I was confident that I had got French title capitalisation and punctuation figured out; it turns out there's completely different rules for Canadian French. 😩

But it's better I learnt this now rather than any later.

I'd still just like to have it conformed what the correct way of dealing with the different English titles for this movie is. The title it's marketed under in Singapore itself is Ramen Teh, so I've entered that as the Original Title. However, the title it's marked under by its international sales agent and its US distributor is Ramen Shop – should the latter be the Translated Title for en-US, or should it only be an Alternative Title?
