Discuss The Highwaymen

A pretty decent movie all around. It was an interesting choice how they basically didn't show the faces of Bonnie and Clyde until the very final shoot out, but I think it worked out pretty well. Speaking of the final shoot out....boy...they didn't mess around back then. I had to watch it three times because the whole thing was so over the top and making me laugh so much and reminded me of that "Stop, Stop! He's Already Dead!" scene from the Simpsons (link below). Six guys unloaded everything they had into the car of Bonnie and Clyde. It was kind of funny reading about the real account because I thought they had overplayed and over dramatized the scene a little bit for the movie, but reading the actual depiction it seems they in fact underplayed it, and I read that the real posse first unloaded their automatic weapons, and then followed with shotguns and finished with their handguns, and in the movie they basically go from automatic weapons straight to handguns so it was actually even more thorough than in the movie, but I guess back in the day when they wanted someone dead, well, they made sure the person was dead and wasn't coming back.

Classic Simpsons scene:

The film did a great job of playing up the anxiety of law enforcement...even though we know how it's going to end, the tension was palpable as the car pulled up. Of course, (spoilers!) you have to wonder about the twitch/reach for the gun, but after all that death it was kind of a moot point. A great film all around and does some work to reposition the outlaws as outlaw.
