I'm sorry I am not following the correlation. Like those films how?

SPOILER ALERT The movie ended with Grey being trapped in his own mind by STEM. This is approximately the same as in The Matrix, where Neo is trapped in an artificial word generated in his own mind. In Inception, the characters is put to sleep, ending up in a simulated world of their mind. In both movies, the main characters are attempting to escape that reality-simulating prison of their mind. Thus, I speculate that the only way Grey can get out of his "coma", is by doing something like The Matrix or Inception, to realize that his coma-reality is a fake one.....

... Hope this cleared things up :-)

I feel that Deus Ex games would be more suitable sequel to this. Grey's happy place is very small and rather insignificant aspect of the story... also there is no more story for Grey, he is done. Human augmentation and AI on the other hand...

It does, thanks!

I hope they don't make a sequel, to be honest.

Me neither. That would be awfully dull compared to this gem.

Well, of course :) me neither... just saying, the world it portrayed felt more like prequel to Deus Ex franchise.

The films that Upgrade harks back to often had sequels. So I don't think a sequel is out of the question.

I'm glad there isn't a sequel... There will be a series, so you guys can enjoy the various story developments and tangents... I think movies aren't the right medium for filling in all the details, rather they're more suited for immersion, mood and atmosphere... Making you feel something...

Serialising them kind of changes the meaning, in the way that the Matrix sequels changed the meaning of the original, whereas Inception is still an iconic standalone film...
