So how did they not notice it wasn't moist. During practice when the custodian was fried like a Tom turkey it dripped into the bucket where you could hear splashes and on the floor until it's placed on the head. It seems weird that Paul only noticed after it went all wrong. He was a stickler to detail and seeing executions going off without a hitch.

Well, Paul noticed it. Unfortunately, he noticed it right before Percy called roll on two and didn't have the time to stop it.

strntz nailed it. You see Tom Hanks look down and notice NO leakage from the sponge from the pail to the chair...before he can say anything it was too late.
Love this damn movie and its little details.
