GARBAGE, is the best I could say about this movie.

Can't add anything better than what you said. Annoying and obvious soundtrack too. At no point could I say it was great or would get better.

After watching recently the new Charlie's Angels and Birds of Prey it's pretty much clear why female directors don't get a lot of chances in Hollywood. And don't say anything about Wonder Woman because it was also huge turd and the sequel will be even worse.

TOTALLY AGREE! I see a couple of TV series also getting released, same problem. Batwoman, Star Girl, Vagrant Queen.....even Westworld is really pushing it.

I am surprised by the 7.1 rating. I watched about 1 hour and 15 minutes and thought it was overall just as bad as suicide squad. I'll finish the last half hour eventually but I wasn't impressed by what I watched thus far.

It doesn't get better.

I finished it. The last 15 minutes got a little better but by then the movie is already over. As for as comic book movies I think this is at the bottom with the likes of X-Men Origins and the fantastic four reboot. I can't give this any higher than a 1/10.

I don't think it was as bad as people have been making out, but I still don't think it was a particularly good film. It was definitely an improvement on Suicide Squad as it did get some things right, it's just that it also came up short in so many important areas.

It did get the tone spot on with it's demented and colourful silliness being far more apt than Suicide Squad's droll blandness. But the writing and dialogue lacked any kind of sharp wittiness that was essential to capitalize on that tone. It just wasn't funny.

Whereas the majority of Suicide Squad had them fighting bits of CGI and lacked the guts to be the reckless and violent riot you'd expect, BOP was R rated and did have physically real action with them fighting physically real people. But that action was so unimaginatively choreographed it was rarely exciting and completely forgettable.

Agree it's terrible, no clue how it has sustained this rating.

Beats me how Suicide Squad was shitcanned and this got good reviews. I'm probably in a minority thinking Suicide Squad was okay, tho my rating of 6 isn't too far off what its average is here and on imdb.

I gave this a pass, a bare 5, not because I enjoyed it, but because it probably ticks a lot of the right boxes for this sort of movie.

What I really didn't like was the derivative Tarantino style. Tarantino knows how to tell a story: this director doesn't. The pacing was uneven and often contrived. And where Tarantino will pay homage to or parody things like 70s Kung Fu movies, a lot of thought goes into how that needs to be done. What Yan does here is mere replication of bad 70s action movies, especially with the overlong and silly fight scenes. You can't homage or parody just by doing the same things as the originals. Likewise with the Tarantino like 'rewind' editing. You can't do this just because you think it looks edgy. It has to drive the story. And here it doesn't. It's just another layer of chaos contributing to the overall mess.

There's also some excruciatingly bad acting in this. I think this is deliberate, some sort of attempt at high camp. But Birds of Prey is trying to force three Batman 'styles' into one movie and none of it fits. Batman 1966 camp, the dark look of the Burton era Batman, and Tarantino pastiche. We go from ordinary street scenes, to Burton style darktoon (yes, I just invented that word) scenes on the pier and in the fun ground. These are different realities in the same movie. And no, there is zero suggestion that this in some way reflects Harley's split nature. This movie is too stupid to establish a connection.

Nowhere is this problem more evident than the scene where one of the characters does a superhero thing. Now, notionally, this movie does fall into the superhero blockbuster category, but no one on this movie actually has superpowers. Except that one thing. It's bonkers, and not in a funny way either. It makes about as much sense as Arnie's Mr Freeze popping up in a single scene in Joker.
