I hated this film when it was first released. I just couldn't accept Nolan's vision. There were so many things that I just didn't agree with. Also, I was comparing the film to it's predecessor The Dark Knight with Heath Ledger's amazing performance as The Joker. The action sequences in that film were spectacular. This movie however, I thought Anne's Selina Kyle/Catwoman needed better editing in her fight scenes, that Bruce Wayne/Batman should never have sacrificed so much to save Gotham, I didn't like that the terrorism aspect or the long running time. But, after rewatching the film with a brand new perspective, I really think that TDKR is a very good film as the final saga in Nolan's Batman trilogy. I look at it as a three part story of this interpretation of the Batman comics Batman Vs the League of Assassins. And the twist at the end of the identity of Ra's al Ghul's daughter was completely a surprise. As I watched already knowing her identity, I cannot see any clues whatsoever.
And so I think that Nolan deserves to give us one last movie to finish off the series by making one more film featuring Robin. Maybe that's wishful thinking on my part?

I didn't care for the first installment Batman Begins. I would rank them like The Dark Knight > The Dark Knight Rises > Batman Begins

I'd love to see Nolan return to Batman in ten years or so with Nightwing and Batgirl, I really enjoyed his more realistic approach to Batman but for now will enjoy the new DC movies with the hope an older Bale and Nolan return one day.

i hope Nolan doesnt waste any more time with comic book movies... yes, these are some of the nicer ones compared to the other comic book movies, but thats such a low bar...
when you compare these batman movies to Nolan's other films you really see how much he is slumming it when he takes these comic book assignments... Momento, The Prestige, Inception and Interstellar are the kind of projects he should be focusing on... I'm so excited to see what he has next and I hope he never has to do another comic book film again.

I predict that if Dunkirk is a box office disappointment, we will see Nolan go back to what makes money now, making superhero movies.

BB and TDK had some very cool aspects to them that made them "good" but they both had some serious problems that kept them in the DC-sucks realm. Then along came TDKR; Batman took 3 steps backward and The World's Greatest Detective once again wallowed in the campy stupidity that non comic fans seem to think Batman permanently belongs in.
Batman Begins: 6.9/10 TDK: 7.6/10 TDKR: 2/10
A very small handful of things elevate it up to a 2.
As Renovatio said, Nolan's catalog is impressive ... except for these Batman movies.
