The first of TDK trilogy I saw was The Dark Knight, then the 1st film and finally TDKR a few years after it's initial release.

Imo TDK is an amazing (comic-book) film and there was probably never a chance that ANY sequel could compete w/ the excellence of it. Having said that, TDKR is actually just as bad by itself as it is in comparison with TDK. N.B. As previously stated, I saw this film way later than TDK so maybe my nostalgia ruined it a bit for me. Maybe I put it on a giant pedestal and admired it too much? So perhaps my hatred for TDKR comes from not allowing it to get close to TDK because that film is very special for me... Just a thought.

Anyway, how tf can someone actually like this film?! Terrible plot and the acting is also worse than the two previous Batman films. Tom Hardy doesn't come close to the greatness of Ledger and don't get me started on Anne Hathaway...

Now let me list the worst parts of the film:

  • A 4 Megaton nuclear bomb that explodes within maybe 2miles of Gotham... where's the fallout? The destroyed ecosystem (no more fish lol)? What about a tsunami that will inevitably destroy Gotham and all it's people. The radiation? The blast zone is probably 4miles so every f*cking living thing in that radius gets vaporized. Further out and everything gets lit on fire, I digress.

  • Which makes me wonder how Batman lived?! He said "No autopilot" - definitely not "No, autopilot" because in the German version it only works the one way and there isn't ANY other way to hear it- so he has to fly the Batmobile to the last second and he does exactly that. Tell me, how does one escape being in the centre of a 4MT nuclear bomb explosion, 5 seconds before it blows up?

  • Another bad section of the plot is Batman being stuck inside the pit. He took months to do something a young girl did....

  • How tf did he get back to Gotham??? How did it not take months?

  • Why did the military wimp out when they knew that the bomb would be set off anyway?

This film's third act is the worst I have ever seen. Mainly because this is Nolan we're talking about and a 200M dollar film, not some cheap production. I had high expectations and they all got vaporized (pun intended), and knowing that Nolan allowed this makes it 10x as bad.

I felt like not five minutes of that film could go by without me cringing. I liked the first two Nolan Batmans well enough but that 3rd one feels like it was made to troll the world.

I have many many more complaints to add to your list but I'll just add my favorite two:

  • Batman sets fire to the thin ice that his friends are on just to inspire them with a big symbol.
  • Bane employs hundreds(thousands?) of henchmen to tunnel under Gotham for untold years and expense (without detection) in order to collapse a football field (just the field) for show.

having quite enjoyed the prior two, as well as the director's other work i could not believe my eyes and ears while watching this.

people heaping praise on it makes me feel like an alien, or like it's a big in-joke i wasn't let in on. i really don't get it.

its a cartoon... no one cares about realism in these... its all fantasy like some hobbit movie

Some fair points. It must of taken Batman ages to make the bat symbol. He could've spent that time saving the city and then he wouldn't of needed to hastily move the bomb at the last second. Like I said, worst third act ever.

The drop from godfather II to godfather III was more precipitous imo

I don't think it's directly bad, I just find it boring and way too long. I enjoyed the first two very much, though.

I preferred it to the second. Also preferred the second Burton to the first. I think I find that when they feature The Joker the films become about the villain rather than the hero.

Speed 2 wins the "worst sequel to a great film" award.

I actually like the film, but I thought I'd help you guys out anyway :P

How about Batman's broken back being fixed... in an instant.

I'm really surprised nobodies mentioned this as i'd have thought it way worse than any of the other flaws mentioned in this thread.

i thought the movie was more fun and comic book scale. It didnt have that serious style as the last 2. Still a great trilogy regardless. Bane was a great villain even if he wasnt the mastermind.

Yeah, this is the only one I didn't like of all three. The 1st one, Batman Begins, was better to me after multiple viewings. TDKR was not, even when I tried and tried to like it. Some parts are okay, but I don't like most of the film as a whole. I'd rather watch Batman 1989 or Batman Returns personally.

Yep, sucky film, and it will for a very long time be cemented in many Americans' minds with the mass killing in a theater of their fellow citizens in Aurora, Colorado.

I was going to say Alien 3, but you're probably right.

True, but no one mentions that it is most likely the earlier film that inspired the killings... In particular the missunderstood yet celebrated psychopathy of Heath's Joker and Bale's Batman... Dork culture's dark side...

I think we're all probably right. slight_smile Alien 3 was quite the mess and I think we'd be better off imagining that Speed never even had a sequel.

Anyways, it's been quite a while since my original post, so I've thought of other possibilities and I'd like to use this moment to further nominate the Crystal Skull. Although in this case it's more of a "terrible" sequel to a "good" film instead of worst/great.
