The first of TDK trilogy I saw was The Dark Knight, then the 1st film and finally TDKR a few years after it's initial release.

Imo TDK is an amazing (comic-book) film and there was probably never a chance that ANY sequel could compete w/ the excellence of it. Having said that, TDKR is actually just as bad by itself as it is in comparison with TDK. N.B. As previously stated, I saw this film way later than TDK so maybe my nostalgia ruined it a bit for me. Maybe I put it on a giant pedestal and admired it too much? So perhaps my hatred for TDKR comes from not allowing it to get close to TDK because that film is very special for me... Just a thought.

Anyway, how tf can someone actually like this film?! Terrible plot and the acting is also worse than the two previous Batman films. Tom Hardy doesn't come close to the greatness of Ledger and don't get me started on Anne Hathaway...

Now let me list the worst parts of the film:

  • A 4 Megaton nuclear bomb that explodes within maybe 2miles of Gotham... where's the fallout? The destroyed ecosystem (no more fish lol)? What about a tsunami that will inevitably destroy Gotham and all it's people. The radiation? The blast zone is probably 4miles so every f*cking living thing in that radius gets vaporized. Further out and everything gets lit on fire, I digress.

  • Which makes me wonder how Batman lived?! He said "No autopilot" - definitely not "No, autopilot" because in the German version it only works the one way and there isn't ANY other way to hear it- so he has to fly the Batmobile to the last second and he does exactly that. Tell me, how does one escape being in the centre of a 4MT nuclear bomb explosion, 5 seconds before it blows up?

  • Another bad section of the plot is Batman being stuck inside the pit. He took months to do something a young girl did....

  • How tf did he get back to Gotham??? How did it not take months?

  • Why did the military wimp out when they knew that the bomb would be set off anyway?

This film's third act is the worst I have ever seen. Mainly because this is Nolan we're talking about and a 200M dollar film, not some cheap production. I had high expectations and they all got vaporized (pun intended), and knowing that Nolan allowed this makes it 10x as bad.

Speed 2 wins the "worst sequel to a great film" award.

I was going to say Alien 3, but you're probably right.

I think we're all probably right. slight_smile Alien 3 was quite the mess and I think we'd be better off imagining that Speed never even had a sequel.

Anyways, it's been quite a while since my original post, so I've thought of other possibilities and I'd like to use this moment to further nominate the Crystal Skull. Although in this case it's more of a "terrible" sequel to a "good" film instead of worst/great.

I like Crystal Skull, it's my 2nd favourite Indy film!

I knew the movie was going to be garbage from the trailers with Banes ridiculous accent, its comical, how can anyone find him menacing when he speaks? I feel like laughing, it is so bad!

But even within the first 5 minutes of the movie there are blunders.

The plane hijack scene, what do you see when the back end of the plane blows open? Clear skies, where is the cargo plane pulling it? Where are the wires? Terrible movie to what should have been an amazing trilogy.

Highlander 2.

TDKR wasn't great but at least it was in the same ballpark as it's predecessor!

This is an awesome movie. Bane was a fuckin badass, I loved the voice! The ending scene with Alfreds monologue, the Robin scene, the statue and the italian bar scenes are all absolutely amazing! TDK trilogy is hands down the best comic book series ever.

I thought it was enjoyable for the first two acts. It did get a little ridiculous in the final act. Anne Hatthaway surprised me as Catwoman

"America is too stupid to live." Haha. That quote made my morning. If I had help, I'd move to Ontario.
