Discuss Eighth Grade

Didn't expect it to be so real that I felt so stressed for Kayla especially the pool party scene. Loved the soundtrack too

Okay, TMDB tricked me with the comedy genre. Turned out to be 13yo girl in mid 2010s thriller.

It made me glad that where I live you go for high school at 11 or 12. Not 13 ot 14 as depicted here. Changing a kid's surroundings just as hormones kick in doesn't seem the wisest of combinations from a child welfare perspective.

The film was decent, but didn't do a whole lot for me. I struggle to relate to kids that are so self absorbed, obsessed by screens and go about projecting themselves as something they aren't. None of the kids in my year were like that. Personal faults would be on display, and sure, there'd be concerns about social status. But building elaborate myths about yourself or denying your own character in order to portray 'normal' behaviour - I never noticed any of that? Maybe I'm just lucky I grew up before the advent of smartphones.
