Cannibal is based on the true-crime story of Armin Meiwes, the "Rotenburg Cannibal" who posted an online ad searching for someone to volunteer to be mutilated and eaten. Unlikely as it may seem, someone actually replied. The film shows a fictional portrayal of the meeting between the cannibal and his victim/participant, their homosexual relationship, and the eventual mutilation and murder of said victim.

Zwei Männer (bis zum Schluß bleiben die beiden namenlos) lernen sich übers Internet kennen. Der eine sucht schon seit langem ein williges Schlachtopfer, der andere jemanden, der bereit ist, ihn zu schlachten. Nun haben sie sich also endlich gefunden. Im einsam gelegenen Haus des Schlächters treffen sie zusammen. Sie werden sich einig, sie reden wenig, sie haben Sex miteinander. Zwischendrin wollen sie aufgeben, sind schon wieder am Bahnhof - entschließen sich dann aber doch, es zu Ende zu bringen. Gemeinsam verspeisen sie den Penis des Opfers, dann tötet der "Mann" das "Fleisch", zerlegt die Leiche fachgerecht in seiner Werkstatt, entsorgt die unbrauchbaren Reste, friert einen Teil für später ein, kocht ein Festmahl und tafelt genüßlich - der abgeschnittene Kopf des Opfers darf zusehen.

הסיפור קרוב לוודאי מוכר לרוב הצופים. בשנת 2003 אדם פרסם את עצמו באינטרנט לאכילה. מה שהופך את הסיפור לאחד הפשעים המוזרים ביותר שהכו את המדיה וייחשב לכך במשך שנים.

Cannibal è basato sulla storia vera di Armin Meiwes, il "Cannibale di Rotenburg" che pubblicò un annuncio online cercando qualcuno che si offrisse volontario per essere mutilato e mangiato. Per quanto improbabile possa sembrare, qualcuno ha effettivamente risposto. Il film mostra una rappresentazione immaginaria dell'incontro tra il cannibale e la sua vittima/partecipante, la loro relazione omosessuale e l'eventuale mutilazione e omicidio di detta vittima.

Baseado no caso da vida real de Armin Meiwes, um solitário programador homossexual alemão que coloca uma série de anúncios online, na esperança de atrair alguém a quem ele possa cozinhar e comer (!). Surpreendentemente, o anúncio é bem sucedido, atraindo a atenção de um homem (que é aqui chamado apenas "a carne"). Logo, o Canibal e seu jantar em perspectiva estão em êxtase, amando, trocando carícias... fazendo tudo que um casal "normal" faria... tudo como um prefácio para as atrocidades que vêm a seguir...
