Discuss I Am Elizabeth Smart

I was hoping for a story that showed female strength. Well, at least this was realistic and not embellished. All I know is that it's a good thing the police finally came along or else Elizabeth would still be a tent bride. This movie makes one thing perfectly clear, learn science and skip religion. It's a form of brainwashing that our country protects. It's evil. Her captors were evil and the religion her parents drowned her in didn't do her any favors, either. Elizabeth can try and rationalize her story any way she likes, it's her life... but thinking that rainfall or a cup of water were "miracles" is flat out childish. A magic sky daddy didn't save her, cops did. And while I am happy she was rescued, she played practically no part in it. Being submissive and scared isn't heroic.

Superstition is evil, not religion. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Religion & superstition are one and the same.

Learn science.

This guy pretty much nails it...

In Age of Science, Is Religion 'Harmful Superstition'?

If Elizabeth wasn't raised to be religious/superstitious, she would have been saved months before she finally was. I guarantee that she believed what those two lunatics were saying. Heck, they pulled out the same dumb Bible that she was raised to believe. So when the guy was quoting scripture while proclaiming he was talking to God, this was very powerful to her. I believe this to be the main reason she didn't speak up when the cop showed up at the library or why she didn't start screaming "I'm Elizabeth Smart!" while at the supermarket or the party or the countless other places she visited. It just doesn't make sense unless she was buying what the lunatics were selling. Elizabeth Smart has such an ironic last name. But really, it's not her fault. Her parents brainwashed her.

Believing in a Creator isn't superstitious. Most scientists do.

Every religion is a superstition. There is no evidence of the supernatural so any belief in such a thing is based purely in faith. A superstition doesn't have to be negative but it often is. You are probably a Christian because your parents raised you that way. You probably think Muslims have weird beliefs that you wouldn't hesitate to label superstitions. But if you were born in that culture, you'd embrace those beliefs just like everybody else because it would be familiar to you. It's completely irrational.

Good for Jayme Closs. Now there is a girl who showed bravery. Instead of lying around like a lump, taking an old, mentally ill man's tool in her sniz for months on end, she broke free and found help. Elizabeth would still be worshiping her "Christ impostor" kidnapper if those cops didn't stumble upon her that one lucky day.

WEAK PEOPLE DONT DESERVE FOR PEOPLE TO REMEMBER THEIR NAMES.RELIGION BREEDS WEAKNESS.

It's true!

Greatest Evil is Ignorance ! Religion is about faith : u just read one book forever and pray for your soul to be save if you havent been as good as god ask ! Greatest Paradise is Learning stuffs ! How many languages did you learn ? How many sciences did you learn ? How many books did you read ? Greatest Evil is just ONE BOOK ! But some are saved with it so i guess its not that black or white !

bEliEvE iN sCienCe!

This is your take away from the film? lol

And what is this female strength fantasy? Of course she needed to be rescued. She's literally a woman. The weaker sex. That's biology, a science (lol)...

As for her faith being a reason she wasn't rescued earlier, that's nonsense. There are non-religious precedents. There is such a thing as Stockholm syndrome...

It seems you have an axe to grind against religion and are using this movie as a tool... 2005 called, they want their new atheism back... lol

WHO ARE THE BEST ... TO TELL A LAUGH ! I MEAN... LADIES MASK... THEY HAVE TO GUEST... BEST JOKE EVER !!!! LETS GO HELL ! PLEAAAAAASE !

Ed Smart should be in jail for bringing that lunatic home with him.
