Ledger rules #1 spot. The length he went to play the character man...
Phoenix was good as the Joker because he portrays a character that transitions from day-to-day illness to psychotic behaviour. It would be unsuitable if he went the same path Ledger did. Phoenix is also good to portray and express emotion on screen, he does it so well.
I'd say Ledger for sure with Nicholson 2nd, the reason for that is because it still feels like Jack Nicholson being Nicholson while under make up which is still pretty grand.
Arthur Flek doesn't seem to be a criminal mastermind just as yet, he seems more of a follower than a leader.
Ledger for sure is still number one. But Phoenix was amazing in his own right. They both played completely different characters in their own way and it worked both ways. Really pleased with both amazing performances. And no, we will never mention Leto...never.
For me, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, and Joaquin Phoenix were all good in their own ways. Among the three, each was not better or worse than the other two, just different.

I can agree with this. For me, I place Ledger above Nicholson above Phoenix.

I did not think Leto was to bad.
You sir, please show yourself the door. I kid btw. And I think Leto got screwed pretty bad. Read they filmed enough scenes with him to make a whole other film basically and they ended up cutting it down to like 15 minutes of screen time. The problem with Leto is that he is to eccentric and difficult to control.
