Συζήτηση για Joker

This is NOT your cookie cutter super hero/villian movie. This is very dramatic, very serious & VERY dark character driven film. Phoenix needs to not only be nominated for an Oscar, but WIN!

I saw it yesterday, too. VERY dark. I don't recommend it for kids at all. It blew out of the water everything we thought we knew about Joker.

No that's not what I was referring to

I wasn't referring to what you said in your other post. I don't want to give it away for those that haven't seen it yet

LOL for those that don't want to know read no further....

I was referring to Thomas Wayne being his father...but turned out not to be...and then Joker not being the one that killed Bruce Wayne's parents

Well there was a the picture he found of his mom after he did the deed in the hospital and on the back it said something like 'keep that beautiful smile' -TW. So its implied he was his father and the adoption was actually false. Which is pretty smart in case she ever came looking for money.

It was a solid film with an admirable creation of time and place, an early '80s Gotham which dripped with atmosphere. Phoenix was excellent, probably one of his best performances. Not something I am likely to watch again, though. 6/10

It's all pretty ambiguous but yeah that picture at least places the seed of doubt in Thomas Wayne being entirely truthful. In fact, if he went to great lengths to discredit any claim she may have had on his fortune via Arthur, then TW could be the major villain in the piece!

(I think the security guy's look (was that meant to be Alfred?) when Arthur told him who he was is another possible clue if you want to stretch the story that way...)

I think this was key...As soon as his mom's name is mentioned Alfred's face lit up...he knows SOMETHING! It really is a big mystery. Sure, Penny was a psycho, but all the more reason NO ONE will listen to her "wild claims"...and EVERYONE knows crazy girl sex is the BEST sex! laughing

Yeah he was nothing like the actual Joker from the comics.

But I think that was the point........to show what drove him to become the Joker.......

Yeah he was nothing like the actual Joker from the comics.

The actual Joker of the comic STILL has multiple (& unclear) origins...'The Killing Joke' graphic novel being one of the most popular "origin" Joker stories has a key dialogue toward the end in that , after the origin is told, Joker says "Sometimes, I remember it one way...sometimes another..if I'm going to have a past, I prefer it be multiple choice! Ha ha"...brilliant! and 'Joker' kinda plays on that slightly...the end of the film, Joaquin says "I thought of a joke" and that we "wouldn't get it" and a pan back to Wayne and his parents...did what we just see happen??? Was it another made up origin?!? THIS MOVIE IS BRILLIANT! and EFF the haters!!! lol

Ummmm I don't think I said I hated it.

I'm still processing it. Part of me is confused as to how this character relates to the Joker from Batman who I have been familiar with for decades. Another part of me really enjoyed how dark and messed up in the head the Arthur character was.

I'm not going to say it was a masterpiece, because there were times when I felt like the actions of the characters were unrealistic (the talk show segment at the end namely). I did not hate the movie, but my enjoyment of it was not as grandiose as most of the reviews I've been reading. I would say good, not great, and that is just my opinion. We can disagree, and still be civil hopefully.
