I am pretty sure this movie is about a polar shift. There are a lot of signs in it. The crazy compass and confused birds. The volcanic activity and the earth quakes. Any other reasonable takes on what it's all about?

Who gives a fuck it was a piece of shit. Another boring post apocalyptic movie. These and the zombie movies could be their own genre at this point.

Zombie movies and disaster/post-apocalyptic movies are their own genre, but you are completely right about how bad this movie is. Just awful. Total waste of time and a terrible ending.

Like cswood said they are their own genre ( and have been for years). I disagree after that. If you want a movie that thinks for you then maybe you should stick to Disney. This movie from start to end allows a viewer, that has a mind and is into this genre, to make their own idea. I see what Lars is saying and think that he/she has a good idea. My thought because "technology" went down added to it and believed that was what caused the demise. Especially when they had to use maps to get where they were going and could not rely on modern technology.

I don't really get why people say it's so bad. Ok, it's not the best, agree there. But I found the desperate journey the three did quite suspenseful. The mystery around what was going on with the world was intriguing least to say. It didn't really really lean on som weird alien invasion which in my view was good, because that is really getting old.

It was very much built for a sequel. He saved her for now, but the mysterious disaster is still going on.

I don't hear any specifics about what was so bad about it. There are a lot of movies out there without any real clues in the ending on what is going on. In fact, even in real life you do not always no what the hell is going on.

So what is it, the acting, the plot or what, more specifically?

Maybe you should stick to Disney? Tone down the asss pretentiousness, Darling. If that user thought the film was meandering mediocre, clichéd shitt which it was, then that's his opinion. A cliffhanger doesn't make you think, luv.

But I think you were the one to start throwing around opinions without any real motivation behind your reasoning. I think that this movie is interesting in two ways, the what-if's when the power goes and anarchy sets just within couple of days. And the theories around polar shift which I think this is all about, how would such an event affect earth and life? It's not so much of a deep thinker movie, it's more of a apocalyptic drama. I just popped the idea what I think it's all about because I think it has been overlooked if I read the negative reviews. Most reviews are mostly about "wtf, what happened", and I think that's unfair. To me the story and the events are rather believable within the context of that scenario.

No, I was voicing my opinion on a pretentious person allergic to criticisms, my thoughts on this film and your polar shift theory checks out.

OK then, cheers Damienracer. I hope there will be a sequel to clear things out.

Come on, the "Disney" bit is a low blow that doesn't further your argument.

The movie is very cliche and convoluted. It starts with Theo James and Kat Graham in the same place, then she flies off somewhere so Theo can have dinner with her parents WITHOUT HER??? Especially when Theo and her dad are not on good terms, she basically threw him under a bus. It's only so Theo has an excuse to go after her.

Then Forest Whitaker tags along even though he is old and not in the greatest shape and leaves his wife at home during this event. Then they pick up mechanic girl who can magically fix anything that goes wrong with a car because she has all the parts and fluids for that particular model in her back pocket I guess.

And then Theo ends up killing the guy who seemingly protected his pregnant girlfriend because of course this guy is an evil creeper trying to get with a woman who's already knocked up with someone else's baby unless Kat cheated on Theo or something. And then the ending just kind of happens and it's over.

I can think of half a dozen similar movies better than this. Watch The Girl With All The Gifts, The Road, The Divide, Carriers, Annihilation, the Purge films, or even the more recent Domestics which wasn't great but was far more fun than this movie.

people are to stuck on what happened and the lack of a proper ending ... the journey is sometimes more important than the destination. that´s the point.

we do have those hints on what went down and let´s face it we all know what´s happened ... the clue is in the name :)

Nice leap of logic there. If I point out the movie is terrible and unoriginal its not because it is, its because I watch disney movies and like to be spoon fed plot. Are you 10? Are you that offended that somebody doesnt rave about a movie just because you liked it? Should I deduce you have terribly low standards to feel it necessary to defend a shitty straight to netflix video? Have several seats sir.

You think its believeable that in current day America a major disaster could happen across the entire west coast and it would be possible that noone would have any idea what was going on 5 miles down the road. You think its believeable that if a disaster happened people would instantly regress within days to without rule of law ethics and behaviors. You think its believeable that a person would send their significant other to stay with thier parent alone, who they know dislike them for destroying thier property and dont even know them or have familiarity with them. For what reason would that even be suggested? Why would he be at her parents at all without her, regardless of the boat incident? I mean I didnt really even care what the reason was for the disaster, for one, because the characters were paper thin and uninteresting, but two because it didnt matter to the story at all, I wasnt racking my brain to figure it out because Ive seen this premise done a thousand times already and the reason for the apocalyse NEVER MATTERS. Its just another post apocalypse movie that thinks its creative because its not zombie or nuclear apocalypse. WHO CARES.

Yes! Thank you! You have restored my faith in humanity.

You think its believeable that in current day America a major disaster could happen across the entire west coast

Certainly I believe that. There are many quite possible disaster scenarios ranging from earthquakes, flooding, drought and more. Especially in eest coast USA.

and it would be possible that noone would have any idea what was going on 5 miles down the road.

Absolutely, even likely in the context of a polar shift (since I think that is probably what is going on, a premise you don't care about) . When power goes and such an unlikely disaster happens, extremely few would even get a hint about what was going on. At least not within the nearest 48 hours.

You think its believeable that if a disaster happened people would instantly regress within days to without rule of law ethics and behaviors.

Are you kidding me? That would happen even quicker than in this movie. People would regress to primitive and totally egoistic behavior within hours. Without power in the city, there is no water and even the gas stations would stop working without power. Food stores and markets can't even open their doors without power, less charge with anything other than cash,at best. There would be riots and looting instantly and I can tell you that when it comes to survival, law ethics and moral behaviors stand no chance in hell. Some smaller towns like the one they pass in the movie where things move more slowly stand a chance to gather and prepare their community isolated from the outside, maybe even manage to self maintain. But civil behavior in larger cities are f-ed in an instant.

_You think its believeable that a person would send their significant other to stay with thier parent alone, who they know dislike them for destroying thier property and dont even know them or have familiarity with them. For what reason would that even be suggested? _

Strange thing to even object against I think, but ok, maybe she thought that a man to man talk would be different when she is not present. Just to give them a chance to talk. We don't know the depth of the characters and since you obviously don't care you wouldnt even put any imagination behund your thoughts. The movie has too much going in the beginning to explain the history behind their relation, and why would that even be important in a disaster movie? If you don't like the genre, don't spend your time watch it.

_Why would he be at her parents at all without her, regardless of the boat incident? _

Like I said, there could be several reasons for that. There could be none if you "don't care".

_ I mean I didnt really even care what the reason was for the disaster, for one, because the characters were paper thin and uninteresting, but two because it didnt matter to the story at all, I wasnt racking my brain to figure it out because Ive seen this premise done a thousand times already and the reason for apocalyse NEVER MATTERS. Well obviously YOU don't. But its the first (and sometimes only) complaint given to dislikes of the movie because probably that scenario is overlooked.

Besides ANY disaster movie these days not being about zombies, aliens, pandemics or nuclear wars would be creative, that's how extremely unoriginal this genre has become. I don't think it's pretentious in any way, even though I could have expected the execution to be better in some ways.

By the way, why are you acting so angry?
