I really enjoyed the two movies and I especially liked the second one. It was very entertaining, funny, scary and all in all an excellent movie experience. Kudos to Muschietti for a wonderful take on the story. However, Skargård's Pennywise was totally getting on my nerves. I couldn't quite get my finger on what was wrong, when I watched the first film. It wasn't just the comparison between him and the amazing Tim Curry (the only authentic Pennywise in my opinion) but after watching the second one, it dawned on me. Skargård has been totally channeling Stephen Geoffreys' character from Fright Night (1985) from the facial expressions down to pitch of his voice! Or so it seems to me... Although Geoffreys' take on the part was perfect for that movie, Skargårds' imitation is an absolute mismatch in this case. Pennywise did not scare me at all and every time he was on the screen, I kept seeing 'Evil' Ed Thompson from Fright Night, which killed the mood for me. What does everyone else think?

He wasn't going to outshine Tim Curry by any means, but I think he did well with what he had. Curry seemed a little bit more down to Earth, like you could imagine meeting someone like Pennywise and thinking he was alright until you find yourself suddenly devoured - and that was kind of the trick.
With Skarsgard performance, different interpretation but definetly a real psychotic evil vibe that would make me want to run.

Thanks for your thoughts. Skarsgard just didn't work for me at all, but I'm glad that many people seemed to like his performance. The book and the old tv-series are a nostalgic favourites of mine and it would have been really sad, if he had spoiled it for everyone. All in all, the two movies were pretty entertaining and fairly scary to watch, a real treat :-)
