it's really difficult to take this movie from POW of European as serious drama, because it seems like bad comedy someone would allow such therapy. i mean there are conservatives who have problems with their children being gays everywhere, but this was over the top.
suicide of specific character was extremely predictable, I was just surprised it came so late, towards the end movie was dragging quite a lot and could use 10-20 minutes cutted away

No, it's not... I'm from the UK, which, yes, is more liberal- but if you think the US is the only country that would allow this... Saudi Arabia, anyone? Russia? In fact, conversion therapy's probably tame compared to what they'd have.

Russia kinda is- and fair point, but I was more meaning you saying "only possible in the US"

OK. How about Germany where they simply imprisoned, tortured, and murdered thousands of homosexuals? And even to this day, there is no same-sex marriage recognition in nearly all of Eastern Europe -- including Poland. Same is true in Monaco and Vatican City which are more west, geographically.
Also, understand that these are very specific people in a specific region at a specific time. I think Most U.S. Conservative families would not send their children to conversion therapy, in general and certainly not today. "Pray Away the Gay" believers pretty much belong in the same category as snake handlers and those that eschew medical treatment, in terms of demographics.
Anyway, I thought the performances were very good. The story itself was OK; it seemed a little formulaic and predictable.

Isn't Germany fairly liberal about the LGBT community now? Although to be fair, most of America actually is too
