Adi (40), a shy and introverted anthropologist who got recently dumped by his girlfriend, moves to Ferentari, most notorious outcasted neighborhood in Bucharest. He wants to write a study on manele music. The pop music of the Roma community serves as a way out for some, but mostly as one more means for the mafia pimps to make money off their acts and keep them in slave-like dependency. While researching his subject, Adi meets Alberto, a Roma ex-convict and a bear of a man, who promises Adi to help him. Soon, the unlikely pair begins a playful romance in which Adi feeds Alberto with improbable plans of escaping poverty and Alberto reciprocates with well-concocted phrases of love. Little by little their casual affair grows into love. And the funny and sweet teasing turns into something precarious, since Alberto is both dangerous and fragile and belongs to a world whose codes Adi doesn't understand.

Adi, un giovane antropologo, lasciato dalla sua ragazza, si trasferisce a Ferentari, Bucharest, con l'intenzione di redigere uno studio sulla musica pop nella comunità Rom. Conosce Alberto, un ex detenuto rom, che promette di aiutare Adi. Presto i due iniziano una relazione. Ma quando i soldi finiscono, si ritrovano intrappolati in un appartamento e ingaggiano un gioco di necessità e potere.

„Soldații. Poveste din Ferentari” spune povestea lui Adi, un antropolog de 40 de ani, părăsit de curând de iubita lui, care se mută în Ferentari pentru a documenta un doctorat despre manele. Acolo, îl întâlnește pe Alberto, un rom sărac, fost pușcăriaș, care promite să-l ajute să cunoască cântăreți. Destul de repede, cei doi încep o relație, în care Adi îl hrănește pe Alberto cu planuri improbabile de ieșire din sărăcie, iar Alberto pe Adi, cu vorbe dulci bine ticluite. Când banii se termină, amândoi se trezesc captivi într-un apartament în care se iubesc sincer și se folosesc unul de altul.
