This is the story of Rosario and Matteo, two man from Southern Italy. Rosario is helped by Luigi to settle in the north. Luigi wants to give Rosario a chance to redeem himself and offer him, at the same time, an opportunity to confront his beliefs with the ones of his son Matteo. Rosario lives in a "commune" and Matteo in a beautiful, comfortable house. They're both introverted and shy and find a common ground: they meet, go out together, become friends and show each other a completely different way of living their lives as teenagers.

A mindig elégedetlen Matteo az apjával, a szicíliai származású Giulióval él Torinóban, mióta a szülei elváltak. Csak a festészet és a zene ad számára örömet. Az életébe azonban változást hoz, amikor megismerkedik a vele egykorú Rosarióval. A fiú a család távoli rokona, anyját nemrégiben megölték, az apja börtönben van. Luigi, dirigente di un' importantissima impresa di Torino, è originario della Calabria dove torna per le vacanze a trovare la mamma. Durante uno dei suoi viaggi, prende a cuore la situazione di Rosario, quindicenne il cui padre è dietro le sbarre e la madre è stata uccisa. Chiede allora aiuto al suo amico don Lorenzo per portare il ragazzo a Torino ed inserirlo nella comunità che costui gestisce. Nella città piemontese Rosario dovrà affrontare un mondo nuovo e sarà costretto a confrontarsi con il coetaneo Matteo, il viziato figlio di Luigi.

남부 이탈리아 해안 지방인 고향 류린을 여행하던 성공한 사업가 루이지는 먼 친척 로자리오에게 덮친 비극에 마음이 아파 온다. 십대인 로자리오의 어머니는 살행당했고 아버지는 현재 감옥에 수감되어 있다. 그는 도우려는 마음에 루이지는 카리스마적인 존재인 돈 로렌조 신부가 북쪽 지방에서 운영하는 불우한 십대들을 위한 보호시설로 로자리오를 보내게 된다. 루이지는 음울한 분위기를 가진 아들 마테오에게 로자리오와 친하게 지내도록 강요하고, 이 두 소년 사이에는 서서히, 그러나 강렬한 우정이 싹트게 된다. 로자리오는 혼라스러운 마에토에게 영향을 주게 되면서 마테오는 아버지의 권위에 저항하기 시작하고, 루이지의 마음 속 깊이 자리잡고 있던 자기 출신에 대한 콤플렉스가 표출되기 시작한다. 문화, 계급 그리고 세대 간의 감정적 장벽이 더욱더 확연해지면서 이들 사이의 미야간 믿음은 위협받기 시작한다.
