Discuss John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum

John Wick is primarily an action movie. Seen through that prism, I personally can't think of anything better this year and yes, I've watched and cried through Avengers Endgame.

As an action movie it deserves at least an 8. relaxed

Perhaps people are entitled to their opinions, Einstein!

And nowhere in my post did I say they weren't. As this is a forum, perhaps I was too dumb to think I'd get reasons as to why people didn't take to it as I did. Excuse my ignorance.

It's 75% now...

The sheer gall that you must have, in order to think that you'd get a level discussion about movies - on a movie discussion forum, no less! You've got some nerve, pal....

I don't grade on a curve: a film has to be good no matter the genre. As such, this movie does not deserve a 74% (down to 71% as of this post...still too high imo).

As to why: for me it was far too convoluted...predictable. I start to get irritated when I can say the lines exactly before a character utters them in my first viewing...this happened repeatedly in this film...and those lines/scenes were quite cliche. IMO, it didn't rise to the level of its predecessors but devolved into glossy repetition. Did they technically pull off all the action scenes? Yeah. Does that make it a good action movie? Not necessarily.

I haven't seen this yet so can't say what it deserves. But 74% is a high mark. If you compare it to other films that are considered action classics, that mark isn't far off. The most obvious one would be The Raid. Probably considered the best pure action film of today. That also sits at 74%. How about Mad Max: Fury Road? That's also at 74%.

If you look at older actioners, Die Hard isn't much higher at 77%. Neither is Hard Boiled at 76%. Face/Off is actually below it at 69%.

I'm with you there, in regard to not grading on a curve. All movies should be expected to just be good movies. I cringe when I heard somebody say, "Well, it's good for a superhero movie so I like it." Or something along those lines. And yes, Wick 3 wasn't as good as its predecessors.
