Diskuter Hellboy

Okay, first I will completely admit that I'm more than four months too early to judge a movie, especially by its trailer. It could be a shit trailer for a great movie. But....BUT....

What. The. F?

All of the pre-release interviews with Mignola and others have pointed to this as being "closer" to his vision of the character. Fair enough, though I just think Mignola needs a fat dose of Preparation H and a little humility to admit that DelToro's version was pretty damn good. I see NOTHING in this first trailer that didn't exist in DelToro's HB series, but with infinitely better casting with Perlman than with...shit...um...the guy in Stranger Things and nothing anyone else can remember.

The suit looks like something I'd pick up for Comic Con at Party City

John Hurt LOOKED like Professor Broom. I don't know WHO McShane is supposed to look like. Either Broom got his hands on too many C-RATS during the war and bloated up or he ATE Prof. Broom.

I'll take practical costume effects for 1,000, Alex, and you can stick the CGI Bat-thing on your thumb and spin on it.

We're getting this pile of crap instead of DelToro's conclusion? Really?!!!

Wow. I got angrier and angrier as I typed that. I suppose I could go back and edit it to make a more reasoned argument, but...fuck it, if the filmmakers aren't willing to try harder neither am I.

Del Toro knew how to do this. This does look gash. Why they didn't just do Del Toro's Hellboy 3 I'll never understand. His creatures were so imaginative, his one liners genuinely funny and perfectly delivered by Perlman. The CGI monsters here look awful and the jokes derivative.

Ian Mcshane's voice alone is a better actor than John Hurt. John Hurt was rather forgettable and I don't understand half the praise he gets. Apart from Hercules in which he called Hercules/ the Rock a bastardd and having a prosthetic pop out of his chest in a movie he did a long time ago... I just don't get it. So this Ian Mcshane casting has saved this hellboy reboot.

I love Ian Mcshane. Especially when he plays gangsters (Sexy Beast, Deadwood) but his presence alone is not enough to save a shit film. Case in point, one of those godawful Pirates of the Carribean movies.

Put down the fatty you have had enough lmao Ian Mcshane better than John Hurt lmao thats a good one hahaha

IAN AND JOHN ARE FAIRLY EQUAL...DAVID HARBOUR IS AN EXCELLENT ACTOR ANDNEED NOT BE A "STAR" TO BE GREAT.DEL TORO DOESNT WANT TO MAKE THE THIRD..HE IS BUSY AND MOVED ON,AS IS PERLMAN WHO SAYS HE IS TOO OLD FOR THE MAKEUP AND STUNTS.THIS VERSION IS DARKER AND BLOODIER,LESS QUIPS AND CUTENESS.LIKE IT OR NOT...JUST STOP BASHING THINGS BECAUSE THEY ARENT SOME OTHER THING.

IAN MCSHANE IS A BADASS. JOHN HURT IS ….TALENTED?

Well, I just got back from the movie, and well it was ok (not bad, but not great either). David Harbour was fine as Hellboy. Ian McShane was well wasted (you'll have to see the movie to know what I mean). The action was pretty fun and gory as hell when we get it, however much of the movie is exposition after exposition. It's like oh it's a monster, here's the whole backstory of that monster with flashbacks. It kept doing that throughout the movie ad nausea (Mike Mignola is to blame for that I hear as the books this movie was based on is apparently heavy with exposition as well). I really hope if they get a sequel they really cut down on the flashbacks and exposition as they really dragged the movie down. However, I only have one really major complaint, its a shot of Abe Sapien's hand reveal. WTF was that? It looked like a glove. It made me fearful of what they are going to do with him in the future.
