As usual, some of these movies start out slow and will surprise you later on. The movie simply got better and funnier as it went on. Now let's qualify that; when I say "better," I'm saying better if this style of comedy is funny to you. Funny is subjective and if I was to qualify it; I would say it had more slapstick in it than I'm used to seeing in comedies nowadays. The good news is the movie keeps moving forward. Too many times comedies "necessarily" slow down and end up not being funny anymore to wrap up plots. This movie doesn't have to unnecessarily slow down just to wrap up a plot, as it's the plot is what keeps this movie funny.

I enjoyed the movie, too-- and I'm not one to frequent films in the comedy genre. Jeremy Renner's character was downright pathological in his determination not to get tagged, which made for some damn good entertainment.
Oh, and having Rashida Jones in the movie-- even if for only a few scenes --was an added bonus;)

Each to their own, but I really struggled with the comedy in this. It seemed like most of it was improv'd a bit haphazardly, and while there were some funny lines, more often than not, the joke fell flat. There were also a lot of 'no me, no you, no me, no you etc.' exchanges, which are tiresome and infantile in the extreme. A few of the scenes were well orchestrated (eg. the golf chase), and it just about passed as entertainment, but given the high ratings here and elsewhere, I was expecting much more and was sorely disappointed.

I found it to be an easy watch. It wasn't really funny but it was entertaining as a simple popcorn flick. The only reason I'd say it was one of the better comedies this year is because they have all been bad. I remember blockers being especially terrible.

It's gotten bad reviews, but it sounds like a funny idea. I'm not sure whether to give it a go or not.

I agree with your assessment. Found it very mediocre and the laughs were few and far between.

Infantile has, sadly, been a staple since John Belushi's Animal House (1978) (then there was Meatballs, then there was Porky's....).
Speaking of Belushi, infantile seems a go-to approach for too many SNL alumni (Adam Sandler, Chris Farley).
