Thanks the only reason I was even considering Universal at all is because here in LA we have the original one, and I've also been to the Orlando one which is much larger but they at Orlando told me the mummy ride at Singapore is the best ride of them all? Its not like im dying to ride the mummy ride but I just thought if there's time why not. But yeah after hearing you saying its not a great theme park at all then I don't have to go there.

So yeah my main goal is to eat delicious chili crab I'm willing to spend $100 on it but I don't want to spend much money on anything else. Id rather just take pics outside of GBB and MBS and have a few bites at the best food stalls and then just walk around and head back to the cruise.

Will the monorail go from the cruise port to GBB and MBS and the East Coast Lagoon food center and Newton etc? It seems if it does then thats my best easiest cheapest way right?

Is it really that hot over there and humid? everyone keeps warning us about that? Is it ok to wear tank tops and shorts? or do they frown upon that?

Oh yeah also do we have to tip? Like drivers? waitress, etc? Do they accept USD?

You can tip if you want but not required like in US. Better change your cash to SGD if eating in hawkers. You can use credit cards for cabs and shopping.

It's okay to wear shorts & tanktops - that's normal clothes here since it's hot. I warn about weather cos my visitors from US & Canada are still surprised at how it's so hot which makes them tired faster when touring. The Mummy ride at USS is cool but the queue may be longer than the actual ride so not worth it you're only here for a few hours.

The monorail is only from Vivo Mall (Harbourfront where cruises are) to Sentosa. MRT is all over Singapore, you can google the map or download MyTransport app.

Just go to Bayfront where MBS is, go to the highest level and from there you can walk to Merlion via Helix bridge while enjoying photos of skyline etc. GBB is also walking distance from there, you can take lots of photos of view of MBS and those avatar looking trees - that where they shot the wedding reception of CRA. It's free there, only if you want to go inside domes then you have to pay. From there you can Grab (if tired) or take train to Lau Pa Sat and eat to you heart's desire lol. If you will eat there - eat satay with cold tiger beer! grin

If you go to Raffles for your Singapore Sling, just across is Chjimes where they shot the wedding scene when Rachel was surrounded by paparazzis.

Hey guys so a bit of change in plans we switched cruises so the new cruise ends in Singapore. So we figure we just go all out and get a room at MBS. Our room comes with like free breakfast and happy hour food and cocktails. So we figure we can just take a ton of pics on top at the famous pool and get all the best photos and videos from up there right?

Also if we are staying at MBS we can pretty much walk to everywhere right? Raffles, GBB, Hawkers? I saw they have a chili crab dish at MBS as part of their tapas menu for like only $30 for a chili crab pasta? I'm wondering if that would be sufficient for my true Singapore experience?

I'm sure the MBS chilli crab will taste great, but for a true 'authentic' Singapore experience, it really should be eaten in a hawker centre.

MBS is a relatively short walk from the bay area - Esplanade etc. I'd estimate about a 20-25 minute walk to Raffles Hotel from MBS - do remember the heat, however, which can make distances feel much further!

MAN I keep getting warnings about the singapore HEAT! I'm scared lol. I'll just buy the biggest bottle of water possible and keep chugging it lol.

So if I were to walk to Hawkers how much Singapore dollars should I bring? How much would chili crab cost there bro? Because honestly Hawkers center would be the only place I'd even use Singapore dollars as I'm getting free breakfast, happy hour food, and cocktails at MBS now.

MrCharmingMan,

When do you leave? Are you going to make any photos available to the posters here (especially of the food)?

Don't worry too much about the heat. Water, a wide-brimmed hat, strong suncream and you will never be far from cranked up aircon.

Just to put my personal feelings on record, although chilli crab is certainly one of the iconic local dishes, I would personally place it somewhere like 10th-15th on the list of 'must eat' foods in Singapore. Despite the brevity of your stay, I do hope you have the opportunity to try a few other dishes.

Venturing to a hawker market? How much to bring depends on how much you plan to eat. Chilli crab is a lot more expensive than most dishes. A plate of chicken rice, for example, would be somewhere around S$4 (somewhere around $3 US). Most of the best dishes are quite inexpensive.

DAMN 10 to 15th on your list for chili crab? Whats number 1? 2? 3?

Should I take the monorail from the cruise port to MBS?

awesome bro, can we private message each other here? does anyone know? I'd like to send you some private messages with the food or even email if you want to provide me with your email, as this trip is crazy long we will be hitting 12 countries outside of the cruise so I won't even be back home until October!

No, monorail is only for going to Sentosa Island. Is your port at Harbourfront? Just take the regular mrt (train) from there to Bayfront station where MBS is relaxed

I normally eat chili crab when I have tourist guests hehe but yeah go for it since you're already here. Must try dishes for me:

  • Chicken rice (Hainanese & roasted) - you can go to Tian Tian at Maxwell Food Centre, Chinatown area. Anthony Bourdain said it's so good you can eat it on its own LOL i love it with crushed ginger & oil
  • Char Kway Teow - stir fried noodles, kinda like SG's pad thai. Best is Outram Park at Hong Lim complex...though long queue (around 1 hour wait)
  • Bak kuh teh - ribs herbal soup, unique taste and the best types have meat so soft and has subtle fat that your underwear will melt when you take a bite. Song Fa's good
  • Laksa - curry coconut milk based soup with vermicelli noodles and seafood prawns, cockles etc....umami!
  • Breakfast - Kaya toast with soft boiled eggs and kopi. My western cousins love this paired with Mee-Siam noodles for sharing. Wang's, Toast Box, Ya Kun Kaya Toast are popular establishments.
  • Satay - this is the Crazy Rich Asian forums lol but yeah - try it in Lau Pa Sat, all the stalls are labeled "Best Satay"
  • Whatever noodles, so many to choose from: Hokkien prawn mee, Wanton char siew noodle, Chicken curry noodles, Fishball noodle, Minced meat noodle, Bak chor mee

Do you like spicy food? Fish head curry! Adventurous? Durian! What else? Roti Prata, Nasi Lemak, Sambal stingray...so much more! Check out the Michelin star/recommended stalls, a lot in Chinatown. If you're into Indian food, butter chicken at Copper Chimney, just across Mustafa (like 24 hrs Walmart).

For dessert: try chendol (shaved ice with coconut milk & stuff) to cool you down. Adventurous? Try fungus hot dessert - yummy!

If you go to Mc Donald's try Mc Wings (curry sauce that tastes unique like mustardy, not spicy) and iconic McSpicy chicken burger aka McDiarrhea joy
