I went into this film with low expectations (as with most Netflix content these days sadly...), but WOW, was I surprised. I didn't realize it was critically reviewed so poorly on RT (don't really use it). A truly engaging and interesting film!
This broke a streak of bad movies I've been watching lately.
Pretty sure the main reason this can't be a sequel to Braveheart though is because Robert the Bruce will be coming out this year with Braveheart's actor reprising the role.

Are you sure? Thought Robert the Bruce was no hero and in fact a traitor? Previews make it appear he was a hero. More fictionalized history?
edit: agreed Geff. Changed man with the martyrdom of Wallace! And yes excellent movie esp. for NF!

The NYTimes article even wrote something along the lines of the movie promotes nationalism...
Come on people.

I liked it. Could've easily been classed as a sequel to Braveheart.
And Aaron Taylor-Johnson was really funny too!

The one flaw that made it not a sequel was The Bruce' father apparently cured of leprosy and no longer a recluse.
