Discuss Gil Scott-Heron: The Revolution Will Not Be Televised

It is an interesting choice and I have a hunch it speaks to KillMonger and not T'Challa. T'Challa represents the status quo and no doubt Killmonger who was raised in the USA wants to use Wakanda's technology to start the world over with everyone starting as equal. T'Challa no doubt does not share that view. Wakanda is withholding cures, technology and even culture that could assist the rest of the world and most importantly the continent of Africa out of centuries of misery. I'm not saying the MCU's version of Africa's history matches current reality but I don't think it is that dissimilar.

It will be interesting to see if Coogler even addresses the social and political complications of a kingdom and regional power with such a vast set of resources that remained unsullied by outside influences but dwelling in an area of strife. We will see.

This musical song choice by Gil-Scott is one of my favorites. Everyone should give the lyrics a read they are indeed fascinating and remember the context of the times then and now. I'm very curious as to why Coogler plucked that song from the history bin for the trailer.

One more item. Instead of Trouble Man by Marvin Gaye the Russo brothers could have chosen "Winter in America" and it would have had an even more prophetic and powerful impact in Captain America:The Winter Soldier the film.

I am now a fan of rap music who would've thunk it.

I'd encourage you to check out the lyrics to both artists with their song mashups in the trailer. I really do think Coogler purposefully used this to enhance the story. I'm not saying the music in the trailer will be in the movie but it appears Coogler is messaging to the audience and not just a selected intended audience.

Some might decry this tactic as overtly political but they should allow their mind to go with it to consume the entire layered story. Coogler has stated that Black Panther is his most personal piece of work to date and coming off of Creed that is a very interesting and intriguing statement.
