What a beguiling film. Like the earlier The Gleanera & I, Agnès Varda's swan song is an offbeat but very likeable documentary/road movie in which the French filmmaker, who was in her late 80s by this point, here travels around French villages with the young artist JR, chatting to the locals and pasting enormous photographs of the people they encounter onto old buildings and structures. It is charmingly odd, thoroughly winning and the enthusiasm, passion and wit of the two companions is delightful throughout. Varda passed away barely a year after this film's release leaving a long and impressive body of work of which this was a memorable curtain call.
