Anybody got any thoughts on this whole debacle since all the reviews discussing it on Letterboxd are gone.

I wonder if people will even remember all the drama two/three years from now?

I'm sure it will come up again during the release of Suicide Squad and before the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Douche-bag youtubers and tweeters won't be able to resist taking advantage of the click bait potential of it. They're not sjws, they're not npc/incels, they're not fans, cons nor dems, they're not shills that work for the WB (or anyone else competing with Disney), they're just douche-bags that believe Marvel+controversy = viewers thus incite the drama.

I think the worse part is that Disney never actually fired him, they just said he was off the project as director. And now after the Fox merger they publicly put him back on. I think Disney might have hurt their image with this. Imagine being Gunn and sitting in the WB Suicide Squad signing/negotiations and knowing you will be back at Disney to direct and also directing for WB. Gunn literally made out like a bandit. I wonder if WB will change their mind and release him from his contract. Cutthroat business man.

I don't know. There were a lot of people (like myself) who thought dropping James Gunn was a dick move by Disney, and many already suspected/understood that the Fox merger was behind it even when the announcement he was dropped was made. Most now are just happy that Disney/Marvel can put this behind them and continue bushiness as usual. As for the WB, I'm sure they can spin this to their benefit if Suicide Squad 2 does well, I hear they're already interested in putting James Gunn on more projects.

If I was WB I would be pissed. Unless he told them he would be back to direct for Disney behind closed doors and they said no problem. But I would think two companies fighting over the comic movie business, I just dont see that happening. Source for WB putting James Gunn on more projects?

Ah ok, this was before we found out Disney never fired him and just played it off like they did. I still dont think WB is happy with this situation. Of course unless they knew about it before hand. I just dont see how two rival companies hiring the same guy to work for them is a good thing. I would suspect a conflict of interest somewhere down the line.

Since James Gunn has had no plans for doing GoGv4, if Suicide Squad 2 does well WB will probably have him do Suicide Squad 3 as well.

Thank God for that. It seemed like a strange decision. I guess we now know that it was the merger and the billions of dollars involved that made Disney so trigger happy. This is a pretty big deal for the MCU, given that the Russo Brothers are leaving the MCU after Endgame, James Gunn was going to be the director to take over as the overseer of the MCU. With Captain Marvel turning out so bad, Black Panther, Doctor Strange and Ant-man and the Wasp being kind of OK but not great, Taika Waititi was the only other MCU director who was on fire, I was worried about the future of the MCU. Although Homecoming was good, it was visually a bit of a let down.

Anyway, I'm now looking forward to GotG 3, and hopefully some Rocket and Nebula spin-offs.

The merger was finalized, that's why they announced it now.

I don't think they ever sacked him. I think it was a ploy to trick Trump supporters or some manipulative PR or some pre merger pretense. The fact that it was so long is what is really odd, they ultimately don't give a shit about prudes so why the five month foolery.

They just announced the finalization of the merger last week, and that they'll start taking over the Fox aquisitions 3 days from now (on the 20th). I don't think they planned to announce James Gunn's return until the 21st, Deadline just got wind of it early.

Good, good news. That worked out rather well!
