Anybody got any thoughts on this whole debacle since all the reviews discussing it on Letterboxd are gone.

I have to respectfully disagree there, as someone who identifies as neither right or left, I still feel it was wrong of someone like Cernovich to be calling out James on tweets he made and repented for many years ago considering the man has also made several un-ironic/tasteless jokes or comments on his twitter account (a garbage website by the way) which to me is even worse since a hypocrite is as low as they come sliming their way through life beating down on others for things they've done equally if not worse on, especially since he was malicious in his reasoning over James' entitled opinion no matter how right or wrong he may have been, he can still go fuck himself but it was still his right to criticize our president. If we really let this slide, what will come of free speech, what freedom will we have when several tasteless jokes we may have regrettably made in the past get brought up again. We live in a time of retribution and not forgiveness or self-improvement in terms of what we say, there's way too many uptight or hypocritical people out there today and that's a shame it has to be like that since I feel we can all learn from one another and stop doing some foolish stuff that gets us fired.

Crazy and weak move by Disney.

Yeah, he did that years before they hired him. Then he made two smash hit films and was in the middle of making the last part of the trilogy. He was tipped to head phase four of Marvel films. No one would have cared about this story if they hadn't fired him and made it into a huge scandal. It looks like a cowardly panicked reaction that was not thought through.

I don't know a whole lot about Gunn. I've seen and enjoyed the 2 Guardians films greatly. Gunn seems like a really good-hearted man based on his writing for those. It's a real shame that people aren't allowed to be of depth and nuance these days -- creatures capable of making shocking statements about dark subjects for a stupid laugh, yet make us feel deeply with their art.

I can't see anyone else doing as good a job with the Vol. 3 film for the Guardians as James would, I really can't.

People keep bringing up taika Waititi . His style is way different to Gunn's though. James Gunn made the characters, and his absence will leave its mark, without a doubt.

I doubt Waititi will even want to touch it anyway, after the way Disney has handled this there is going to be blowback.

I think sacking Gunn will alienate more people than not sacking him. And if they didn't want to alienate those people, they shouldn't have hired him. They hired him even though they knew about his tweets, he did way better with Guardians of the Galaxy than anyone expected, then after employing him for 6 years, they fire him. That is crazy, anyway you look at it. No one was picking up this story before his sacking.

And OP can you like my replies too please I feel the odd one out, thanks.

Your wish is my command, no one gets left out no matter if I disagree, here's one like towards ya

This is the world we live in now. Social media is weaponized beyond believe now. As for Gunn specifically, he should have just kept silent. I dont need to know how much you hate Trump or republicans. I dont need to hear how amazing you think Clinton would have been as president. Do your job and make great films. But Gunn got caught up in the whole Hollywood virtue signaling. Its basically karma coming back and slapping him in the face. Do I think he should have gotten fired? No. Do I understand why the mouse did fire him? Yes. In the witch hunt environment that is Hollywood it dosent matter if you said offensive things today or twenty years ago. And none of this would have happened if he just kept his political opinions to himself. Or at least didnt go after someone because of their political beliefs. Sad situation, just cost himself millions and probably shunned by Hollywood for awhile at least.

It was asinine. His comments were juvenile, but he also made them a decade ago. We all made "dead baby" jokes back in school but nobody cares anymore. Hollywood has become cartoonishly risk-averse. Social Media has reduced the behavior of most of its users to that of immature, self-conscious high school children all over again with the name-calling, vindictiveness, and self-consciousness that implies. People need to grow the F up.

It was asinine.

But thats the PC culture the Left wants to live in now. Open boarders and correct pronouns for all. Oh you feel like a 13 year old girl today John? Ok sure go into the girls High school volleyball locker rooms, dont want to offend you. Oh you said you like 15 year old girls 10 years ago? You are fired! You made a racist joke on Myspace 15 years ago? Fired!...aint it grand?

Why but? You say that as if James Gunn is "the left". If you disagree with PC culture, then you disagree with James Gunn being sacked. There is no but.

Having seen the tweets, I would imagine that it looks worse when they are all gathered together in one place without context - and I'd say I've seen just as bad on this site. I guess the difference is that no-one here is working for Disney.

It sounds like James Gunn had already apologised for the tweets (some way back as well as since things hit the fan) and he seems to be handling the fallout very well. It's nice that members of the cast and other Hollywood types are supporting him.

Let's hope Rachel "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" Bloom never gets on the wrong side of Cernovich: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSj2wy7ZJVo

We? No, you made dead baby jokes when you were younger because that's no surprise to anyone. There's NO we in this. Admit you're a twisted fuckk and own it.

No one is twisted for making a joke. Ever. People who pretend statements made in jest are serious so that they can unjustly persecute someone with impunity...that is twisted.

I do disagree with him getting fired. But I see why the mouse did it. Its because of the PC culture that the left, and Gunn, have been pushing that this happened. Irony at its best.
