Meryl Streep is, of course, nominated by the Oscars almost by rote and, very often, for fine, deserving work. But this is one of those which really pushes the 'default to Streep' trend too far. I found her character underdeveloped and her performance little more than a set of ticks and mannerisms. It wasn't entirely her fault, necessarily - the script gave her little to work with - but it irks me when she is gifted nominations almost as a matter of course when other actors could benefit from the exposure which a nomination brings. Sorry ladies, there are only four slots available in most years.

Thank goodness they didn't throw her in this year for her cameo in Mary Poppins Returns.
