Discuss The Darkest Minds

My cousin and I saw this movie last night. We both liked it, but the movie felt like it ended just as it was setting up the climax of the story. I had heard that it was based off a book, but I didn't know until I looked it up afterwards that it is a series of novels in which the 6th entry was released the same week as this movie.

When done right, a movie series' first outing will tell a story that can stand on it's own and then the closing moments will tease that there is a bigger story to tell. This movie feels like it told us to wait come back for a sequel to see the ending to this story arc. I still rated it a 7/10 for the story told so far, but it would have been a little higher if it had felt like a complete movie.

There is no way of knowing with only the Thursday preview box office reported so far, but it feels like they have set up a movie series that might not ever see a sequel based on box office income.

I originally saw this on 08-14-18 at the drive-in, but it feels more like I saw it last February or March probably because I felt there wasn't much to remember. I had to watch the trailer just to remind me what the story was about. I liked the movie. The effects and action on the screen was very impressive and the movie itself set me up in a way the reminded me of The Maze Runner series, "Chronicle" or the people (mutants) who attended the Xavier School. So this kind of events is not new to the screen, this time it simply dealt with a different set of characters.

It received a rating of 5.5 on IMDB, the budget was 34 million and the gross worldwide as far as I could tell is or was 24.5 million. Of course that may not include other sources such as cable, home video and/or other revenue sources. Overall to me, it was just one of those movies I'll happen to watch simply because it's a movie...something entertaining...not because I wanted to go way out of my way to watch it. I saw it in fact at a time it played as a second feature opposite of "The Spy Who Dumped Me."

Enjoyable? This was easily one of the worst movies I've seen all year. It's this year's 5th Wave. The fact they set it up for a sequel was both the funniest and most insulting part of the movie. It's awful, truly terrible.

I don't know if you've seen as many movies as I have, however so far this year among of all the movies I watched, Sherlock Gnomes, Fifty Shades Freed, Gotti, Unfriended: Dark Web, Breaking In, A Wrinkle In Time, I Feel Pretty, 15:17 Paris, I feel are all way worst than The Darkest Minds. I liked the action sequences even more in The Darkest Minds than what was created for Black Panther.

Yeah, I've watched over 70 movies in theaters this year with Movie Pass. Since I didn't have to be very selective until recent changes were implemented, I've also seen far worse movies in the past year.

Well in fairness I skipped every single one of those except for I Feel Pretty which I fast forwarded through on DVD, though I am curious to see just how bad Wrinkle In Time is. I still can't imagine Darkest Minds is much better though, it's just very very VERY predictable and has that Divergent/The Host feel.

Black Panther was ok but it doesn't hold a candle to Infinity War. I actually think I enjoyed Ant-Man and the Wasp a bit more than Black Panther.

I liked Divergent, though with all the movies I've seen, I don't believe I've seen the Host as I just watched the trailer and I didn't recognize it. Looks like I wouldn't mind seeing it though.

Yea me too!

It's based on the first book in the series...

So yeah, there is more story to tell.

I very much doubt that a sequel will ever be filmed.
