I thoroughly enjoyed it. I got several laughs and was not disappointed. Lots of nice touches as well. Like the model work seamlessly blending into live action.
My only complaint was that they gave a fairly poor representation of modern games. I'm a table top game geek so it pains me to see people playing lame old clunkers like Monopoly or, God forbid, Life.

Probably because that's what people are more familiar with when it comes to board games.

I don't understand the hype either. I didn't laugh at all and it was only mildly enjoyable. Definitely glad I didn't waste my time in the cinema on this.
? Very few laughs. Rachel McAdams and fat/creepy Matt Damon stole the show.
I was also a wee bit surprised by the contrast between good reviews and the distinct averageness of the film itself. You're right, fat/creepy Matt Damon was the only interesting/funny character.
It was a lot like a less funny version of Bill Murray starrer The Man Who Knew Too Little.

But would the characters in the film really play the kind of games you're talking about? They are a mix of regular joes. I've been to the kind of board games clubs that you're talking about a couple of times and the people there do not look like the people in the film.
That's not to say they shouldn't have made a film more focused on those kind of characters and games. It would probably be a very different film with a different tone, characters and dialogue. It would probably make it more distinct and interesting.

What do they look like?
They varied from nerds to geeks and hipsters. It's hard to describe but I guess they look modern. They all look like a culture that is very much of the now. They looked like how people look in Scott Pilgrim Vs the World and Silicon Valley. And the games are mostly pretty complex and often taken pretty seriously. Not that I'm criticizing. They were quite fun.
But the people in Game Night seemed more metrosexual. Hollywoodized versions of regular, late 30s/early 40s caricatures. Along with the fratboy style player for variety. They were simple people who liked simple, party style games.
Pretty decent. I thought a lot of the physical comedy worked pretty well, the two leads and Plemons were good and it was nice and compact in terms of cast and runtime. My sides weren't at risk of splitting but commercial films need to secure a broad audience so you are unlikely to get "1%ers" gags that reel you in more.
7/10

OP, I'm curious, were the trailers for this movie deceiving? Was it MORE horror then comedy?

No. It wasn't horror or comedy.. it was a little bit of suspense. The jokes just fell flat. I'm just curious why it's rated so highly on this site.

Rachel McAdams is the reason for this season!

Wasn't it highly rated in general? I remember the critics seemed to really like it when it first came out. It was ok. Better than expected I suppose.
