The film dealt with some topical subjects for its time, for example ; mistreatment of the lower class, illegitimate children, and interracial relationships. There were a few violent scenes that shocked me. The uncle was one greedy callous SOB. This was also my first film starring John Carradine and Frances Farmer. A rare gem of a film that should be more popular.
